It seems like such a simple thing, but it never occured to me before. I’m always thinking this is the LAST time I’ll be eating this, so might as well stuff it in. It’s not logical, since obviously the food is still going to be there tomorrow.

I think it might have something to do with my childhood. There was often not enough food, even when my mother skipped meals to give them to us. And our father would eat our food off our plates if we weren’t quick enough (he “worked hard”). You’d think I could look down at my big flabby body and realize I’m getting enough now!
Today is the first day of your new life: free from all that baggage that has held you hostage all these years.

Thank you, Jesus!🙂 🙂 ❤️ :hug3:

Yep food will always be there, especially in our civilization, so don’t think today is the last day you can have that eclair. Think it’s always there if I want it.

God bless, prayers going to all who are trying to lose weight

I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum, I need to gain weight.

Isn’t that a great feeling! 😃 Thats the attitude that I took on January 1st. It has been a tough road. I have been over eating my whole life and not getting much exercise. This year, I have cut down my portion sizes (I do struggle at times) and have been staying away from sweets and sodas. I’ve also been very good about getting on the treadmill. I jog a mile and walk a mile and a half 3 days a week.

My goal for the year is to lose 40 pounds. I had lost 18. SO close to half way but then I drank a bunch of beer with my brothers over the 4th of July and gained 2 back. :o I’ve been doing great this week so hopefully those 2 pounds will slop back off. I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it to 40 pounds now but hopefully I can get pretty close.

I keep a chart of my weight and every Monday morning I weigh. It gives me a visual of how well I’m doing. The week that I jogged on the treadmill every day, I could see that I gained weight in muscle. But then started losing again if I stuck with it. I could also see that I cheated and gained a pound.

My mom was told by her doctor today that she needs to lose weight or she’s going to start having heart problems. She’s obese. I don’t know how much she weights but she really needs to lose. She’s been on Atkins, and lots of other diets but they don’t work for her. She needs to do a lifestyle change too.

Maybe I’ll see if she can be my buddy so I can try to motivate her, thereby motivating myself. I don’t know if I’m strong enough.

We need to think of this not so much as “losing weight” as “getting back what belongs to us” – our REAL bodies, our health, our energy, our physical strength, our positive attitude. Depression and weight-gain go hand in hand. Little tiny things can change the balance.

I saw a study recently (but lost it, of course) that showed that when people start to reduce the clutter in their homes, they also lose weight.

As FlyLady says: “Go shine your sink!”

Welcome to all those who wish to change their weight! I need to lose 100 lbs. but will be happy with 27 right now (10%) that is my first goal. My next goal is to head out to Water aerobics next week, three days a week (I was doing Jazzercise that many days a week before I had knee surgery - and more before the knee started to hurt which sent me to surgery).

I started WW on-line a week and a half ago and have already lost that first 6 lbs. I too have to be careful to consume all my points and be okay with using some of my weekly total (WW people will understand).

I am enjoying using the program though and do get some exercise at Physical therapy just not enough, I can tell due to depression starting to set in (yes, exercise does make a big difference!

Brenda V. make a smaller goal. 27 is a large goal. Start with 9 pounds. After that give yourself a little treat. Like one piece of dark chocolate when you reach your goal.

Good idea. Dark chocolate probably wouldn’t cause more sweet cravings.

How about this. . .For those of you doing WW, what are some good low point snacks that are satisfying.

Or even meals. . .I will have a wrap with peanut butter and carrot sticks in it. It’s crunchy, low points, takes a long time to eat, and satisfying.

Any ideas?

I took a short walk this morning, and chose musterd on my sandwich, rather than mayonnaise. I feel good 😃

I’m currently 175lbs, and would like to be 132 - my premedication weight. My immediate goal is to see the 160’s again, then the 150’s, and so on.

Good job Annika. Keep with the small goals and you’ll get there.

God bless

I’ll be glad to share what worked for me. Over a year ago I bumped into a friend I hadn’t seen in year. He went from 397 to 230 in a year. About 170 lbs in 12 months! Of course I asked him what he did and as long as it was not stomach surgery I was interested.

The program was a weight loss program that was doctor monitored. This is important to people like him who have various obesity related health problems with the weight. He had diabetes, high blood pressure that required meds, super high cholesterol, two bad knees and a hernia so he needed to be doctor monitored.

Anyway, I enrolled and went from 280 to 210 then I found the products he was selling me online that were cheaper than through him and I now had changed my lifestyle and habits. I must admit, while the doctor visits did cost me money, the accountability factor helped early on.

The program consists of me eating 7 times a day! I eat 5 high protein products (pancakes, bars, mac & cheese, cookies, shakes, puddings, other entrees, deserts, etc). These products are low calorie, high protein, low fat. I also eat 1 healthy meal a day (3-6 oz of lean chicken, beef, pork, a starch like a cup of rice, pasta or medium potato), and I eat a fruit (usually an apple).

My eating schedule was breakfast (pancake or eggs or cereal), mid morning bar or cookie with coffee, lunch (chili or sloppy joe), mid afternoon (bar, pudding, cookie), the healthy dinner, late night snack (cheddar cheese chips - high protein). Somewhere in there I would eat the apple. So I am eating 7 times a day, small portions.

Now exercise. The doctor said that such a lot calorie diet (1200-1300 cal/day) requires exercise to also keep the metabolism going. The body naturally slows down due to the lower calorie intake. He recommended just 30 minutes of aerobics/day for 6 days/week. I forced myself to get up at 5 AM, go to the YMCA and do the elliptical machine for 30 minutes. I probably did it 3-5 times/week.

I could even bring the protein products on trips with me. During meetings, I would just sneak a bar out and eat it.

Anyway after 10 months I went from 280 to 195! My pants went from 46" waiste to now 34" ! My shirt size from 2X to just Large. I am now playing racquetball like I was 23 again (I am 50) and I feel great!

I now buy the products online at www.dietdirect.com . This is not my site and I don’t sell the products. I just share it to direct you there because that is where I now buy them. If you are very overweight and have other health issues, you should see a doctor. If you just want to lose a few pounds or just want some healthier snacks, check this out.

It took me 20+ years to gain all that weight slowly and now I have learned a new lifestyle, eat better, exercise to maintain and keep it off. My friend has kept it off over a year.

In summary what I learned:
o control portions
o choose healthy foods
o eat many small meals
o get in exercise, whatever works for you

This is not atkins in that you do eat some starches/carbs.

Anyway, it worked for me. Hope that helps some of you. Feel free to ask questions.

I forgot to mention, the healthy meal also includes a cup of steamed veggies. I always spice them up and add “I can’t believe it’s not butter spray”.

How much of that spray do you use? Just because the label says there are 0 calories per serving doesn’t mean you can go nuts with it. The leader at the Weight Watchers meetings I go to called the company and found out that they were allowed to print that each serving has 0 calories if each serving had fewer than 10 calories. The leader had asked because there were people who’d use the entire bottle for a snack because they thought it was free and they’d end up gaining a ton of weight.

I lost 50 pounds in one year with Weight Watchers, and their system really does work if you have the discipline and determination to do it. I’ve also found that one really needs to make themselves less food-oriented in order for it to work and eat foods for their nutritional value instead of their taste. I lost over a hundred pounds as an anorexic and bulimic before that, but I was pretty sickly and after a while I just simply could not lose anymore weight that way. I was over 300 pounds in high school and I’m glad that I lost the weight when I did because I managed to get away without becoming diabetic. I can’t stand for more than 30 minutes, but now I have a lot of aches and pains which stopped me from reading (can’t sit and hold a book, basically), though I’m a lot more active now that I’m at 170 and am into tennis. My doctor only wants me to lose another 10 pounds.

To answer your question on the spray, just a few squirts for flavor. I agree don’t eat the whole bottle.

As far as “diets” or “live-its” as I call them. Everyone has to figure out what works for them. I also tried WW years ago, lost 30, then stopped paying attention (in other words did not change my lifestyle) and went pretty much back to what I was doing and gained 20 back.

I am an engineer. You need to burn more than you take in. Plus you need to eat the right kind of nutrition.

I was a breadaholic and loved all kinds of bread, bagels, pizza, rolls, breadsticks, did I mention bagels? I avoided them completely for 10 months as well as fried foods.

Now that I am “maintaining” I now eat bread in moderation and rarely have fried foods. I’ve had one slice of pizza twice, not 3-4 like I used to.

My lifestyle before had me gain 2-4 pounds per year for 20 years. Now I really watch what I eat, am never hungry because I eat frequently, but eat right.

Someone also mentioned cravings. Well when my kids get desert, I will taste a spoonful and not get one for myself. I enjoy the flavor but avoid eating another 400-600 calories (cake, icecream, etc).

Anyway, this obviously worked for me. It may not for others. For me it was the easiest thing I ever did.

Ummm Okay…Im not sure what point you intended on getting across in your post…

Actually I have the book that I purchased from a Christian Bookstore, I didnt find the website until after I got the book.

I have been doing Daniels Diet for the past three months and not only have I lost over 10kg but my migraines are gone too.

I suggest that next time you think of jumping to a poorly informed conclusion…you do your research.

Yeah, that or maybe I already did my research. It preaches a miracle diet that can make you lose ten pounds, as if once you take your weight off you’re somehow “cured.”

No, you just read the first page you saw on the website.

Never mind what they “preach” it works, its healthy and its built on faith, which is what this topic was all about. I was having some (name removed by moderator)ut in this thread, trying to help people…not sure what you’re here for.

“as if once you take your weight off you’re somehow ‘cured’.”

Cured of what exactly? Isn’t the objective here losing weight?

OK, so what to do now? I need to loose 70 pounds. acountability and support are the key for me. I lsot 60 pounds a few years back and gained it with the last pregnancy and 2 years of special needs baby. Instead of sleep, I eat.

when i lost the weight before i followed these RULES:
*write my food plan every morning during prayer, asking God for guidance in meal choices
*call/ post or email my foodplan to another person for accountability
*stick to the foodplan
*if i blow it, fess up and don’t make excuses
*walk every day
*no fake foods
*no transfats
*half veggies overall

back then i was in an email pool of a few women who were working on wieghtloss goals in different ways. WW, the American diabetes diet, etc. we didn’t argue about who had better methods. we just kept trying to find what worked for each of us. we all had some success.

a few posts earlier, it sounded like a few people were interested in a real life change of healthy eating, physical activity, accountability and support. it sounded like a few people knew how to set aside a space for this on CAF. if not, a few gals in an email pool, working on the same goal might be OK.

please pm me if you are interested in this. please don’t pm me if you are shilling a diet program.
