Has anyone here heard of or read or own the Christian Community Bible? Is this a good translation? Is it an approved translation? I am thinking of acquiring one and wonder if it is any good. In Christ, jurist12
Yes, I have one copy given to us by my brother-in-law. It is an approved translation, and the commentaries are quite good. You should get one.Has anyone here heard of or read or own the Christian Community Bible? Is this a good translation? Is it an approved translation? doesn’t do a whole lot for me.People cannot live on bread alone
I agree, it is not my main translation, but I do refer to it from time to time.I have a Christian Community Bible, Catholic Pastoral Edition. I don’t have any issues with it although I would normally use my D-R Bible.
AMEN!Just think if you purchase the smaller sized one, you too can become a Bible carrying Catholic and you cannot be accused of never reading the Bible as you produce the evidence that negates such an accusation:clapping::dancing:

I have to take back my earlier comment. While it is true that some bishops don’t approve of the text and there is a tint of Liberation Theology in the commentary, the commentary tends to spiritualize the text. It is good to compare to the commentary to a more literal commentary like the Haydock or the Oxford Annotated Bible commentary.I like the text of the Christian Community Bible but the commentary is tasteless and as bad as the commentary of the 1986 NAB. I think that the commentary has a hint of Liberation Theology. I heard that the Christian Community Bible is not approved by some bishops.

Are you sure you mean liberation theology and not liberal translation?Hi,
I think the New American Bible is more liberal than the Christian Community Bible. But both has Liberation Theology.
