Are you sure you mean liberation theology and not liberal translation?
Liberation theology draws from marxism and I don’t think it is approved by the Church.
Hi thistle,

Please read the article on the CCB first on bible-reasearcher I posted. I think you misunderstood me. I’m not talking of the translation but the commentaries below the text. I repeat, I like to read this Bible but not the commentaries below the text because I am wary of it.

That also reminds me of the NAB. The footnotes leave a lot to be desired.

I have two copies of this bible, but I am not happy with the notes. It waters down a lot of the meaning. I only purchased it because in Luke’s Gospel the words “Full of Grace” are properly translated. Some of the notes assume that the scripture writers made up things, if that were so, then the writers were not being truthful. Such comments only create doubts in the minds of simple people, so I really don’t understand how such comments are allowed in a Catholic edition of the Bible.
I might seem unbending but when translators and commentators compromise the Word of God, I just cannot tolerate it.

If one wants to understand the order of books, then this Bible fails in that area too. For whatever practical purpose, the books of the OT are pushed into places, where you are not used to finding them, if you have the book name tags, that too doesn’t justify why the ordering of the books needs to be changed. I noticed that although this bible claims to be Catholic, it does not have a Nihil Obstat, so I would be skeptical as to the use of this Bible for prayer or for study.
Can you give examples of scripture writers making things up? some scripture is parable, some is historical, it’s important not to confuse the two. Other examples like the book of Daniel are an odd hybrid between the two. That book has an odd approach to “history” and is of uncertain origin (by the reckoning of any biblical scholar).

the Christian Community Bible was granted the “Imprimatur” by the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines.
If you do a search on the meaning of Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat, a Nihil Obstat is required from a theologan before an Imprimatur can be granted. Therefore an Imprimatur explicitly implies that a Nihil Obstat was granted, but it may ahve been done as a unified process.

Nihil Obstat is issued by a nominated theologan. Imprimatur is then issued by the responsible bishop.

I read these reviews which were okay but I am confused the Oxford annotated bible is put together buy an individual who wrote a book on what he feels biblical sexuality should be. My concern is that the Oxford Anonnotated Bible is really a front for liberal theologians who tend to deny the spiritual or miraculous such as the Jesus seminar folks making it really unusable for Catholics to use for serious study. The Christian Community Bible on the other hand though devotional in style and having a tendency to dabble in liberation theology has a more lifestyle reflected base similar in ways to the life application bible which I find refreshing. Most Catholic bibles are about knowledge college classes etc they tend to rip apart the text but do not do what evangelicals are good at and that is talk in a way that minister to the heart and effects are lifestyle I can I refer to the life application bible. This is the strength of the Christian Community bible it challenges me to live my life in a different way. I do not find it watering down anything it is not a college level theological study bible it is an action bible or lifestyle bible. Yes some of this comes from the context of the author’s interpretation and for some this is not how they do bible study or read scripture for me it helps in the heart of the lecto divina and forces me out of my smug intellectualism which I have pumped with since my fundamentalist days. Honestly we do not need more study bibles we need bibles like the life application bible that become personal trainers another good one was the saint New jerusalem bible I forgot the exact title but again it spoke to the heart using the voices of saints such as st Dominic about real life issues not abstract ideas making the faith real. I am tired of abstract bibles they are in my opinion useless when talking with post modern non Christians.
