Notes It’s Current In Measure of a Lively Faith

VATICAN CITY, MAY 21, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The beauty of the Christian cultural inheritance is not something that is “outdated,” but rather something that will remain alive and current in the measure of a lively faith, says Benedict XVI.

The Pope said this today upon delivering his weekly catechesis today in Paul VI Hall in which he commented on the Christian poetry of Romanus the Melodist, a theologian, poet and composer was born in Syria at the end of the fifth century.

The Holy Father explained that Romanus was an ordained deacon who dedicated himself to an original form of catechesis.

I’m not sure what “Christian cultural inheritance” (emphasis on cultural) refers to nowadays. If the Pope meant that Catholic teachings and the spiritual impulse for the Mass and sacraments are not outdated, I can certainly agree with that.

Moral values, education of children, family life, parish involvement and not buying into the “relativism” of the “now” culture, and the “culture of death” all fall within what the Holy Father said.

The average Catholic should realize that the tremendous amount of immoral noise being generated by the TV, magazines, movies, newspapers and books is having an effect on you. It’s having an effect on your children. It’s having an effect on the people you work with.

Certain people do not or cannot understand the richness of Catholic culture or the significant cultural contributions made through the ages by and through the Church. In art, in literature, through architecture, and the promotion and establishment of universities.

Currently, Pope Benedict is reaffirming the Catholic Church as the factually one, true, holy and Apostolic Church in dialogue with all other faiths in a sincere search for truth and peaceful, dignified life for all human persons. To return the leadership of Cathlic Universities to Catholics so that things that are authentically Catholic can be given to their students.

Those who search for truth and meaning outside of the Church are often searching for novelty or are reinventing the wheel. The Church offers not only full salvation of the body and spirit but is a guide to all, Catholic and non-Catholic, who wish to listen to her counsel.

The culture of the Christian is meant to uplift and inspire both for worship and for man’s everyday life. The richness of man’s imagination working together with divine truth can explore many realms but it should set upon itself limits that exclude the exploitation of the person, the pursuit of ugliness and depravity as worthy subjects for adulation, and gross profanity. The artist is truly in the service of God and his fellow man and should communicate messages and images consistent with that service.

God bless,
Ed

Thought I would add a few things here.

Pittsburgh, PA just approved SS benefits.
California now has SS “marriage”.
Assisted suicide is now legal in some states.
Preaching or teaching on the sexual morals in religion is now something to be “looked” into.

Moral values should never be outdated or out of style.
When will we start to be rewarded for doing the right things? Our children deserve to see moral decisions being rewarded by our society.

The media has set their spotlight on the profane, the immoral and the outrageous.

I suggest all Catholics get Catholic newspapers and magazines where they can read about the tremendous good works being done by Catholics around the world. Right now, the attempt by secularists and atheists to overthrow the society is ongoing. It will be up to each of us to be good examples as individuals and as families. We can no longer count on the secular media.

God bless,
Ed
