Christianity is Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy

Mental illness and/or fear cover most. I haven’t gone through an extensive list.

The reason why there are abnormalities, environmental causes are usually cited.
The reason why mental, other illnesses and death exist is because we find ourselves in a very bad place. You don’t have to be Christian to see this; it has been known to man in every age. It is the first truth that Buddha uttered. Catholicism provides the most comprehensive explanation of why this is and offers God’s solution.

“Carlyle said that men were mostly fools. Christianity, with a surer and more reverent realism, says that they are all fools. This doctrine is sometimes called the doctrine of original sin. It may also be described as the doctrine of the equality of men.” G.K. Chesterton

Adam and Eve were fooled by the serpent. We inherited their foolishness.

Yes, it is an environmental problem. The world is full of snakes.

So we are flawed. Environment and humanity ought to be able to coexist harmoniously, without aberrations occurring. That there are abnormalities is testament that the Christian paradigm is true.

You have no other coherent explanation.
Nature which we are a part of is a constant series of trails under changing conditions. Some are failures others are successes. The wheel is in constant motion. Change is the only consistent.

But you have yet to explain why there are failures.

Christianity has an explanation. You reject that.

So what’s your explanation?

Thank you, Heraclitus! 😃

Change is the only constant. Why do you suppose that is?

Are you asking the nature of the failure or why are there trials?

You don’t Heraclitus’s explanation of opposing forces?

How about then the interplay of Quarks, Leptons and Gauge Bosons?

The concept in original post is people aren’t flawed. The concept of original sin is flawed.
You haven’t answered my question.

What is your explanation for flaws in people? For flaws in the world? For flaws in society?

Surely you don’t think the world is as it’s supposed to be? Or do you think people are supposed to lie, cheat and steal, abuse their bodies, crash planes into buildings, enslave others?

What’s your explanation for all of the above?

I would hope that it has a little bit more of a rational paradigm than the Christian one, if you’re going to reject that in favor of your explanation.

So what is it?

I thought we covered this.

People aren’t flawed but do act badly. They act badly out of fear and sometimes mental illness. There are chemical and physical causes for mental illness. Because they act badly doesn’t mean that they are incorrectly made as a whole.

You have got to be kidding.

Surely you see the cognitive dissonance that is required here for me to reject the Christian paradigm in favor of “my explanation is that people act badly mostly out of fear.”

If you’re going to offer an alternative explanation to the Christian one, you’re going to have to do a wee bit better than “mostly because some folks are chicken.”

We are all afraid. It’s how we deal with the fear that differentiates us. Some people act poorly. If I loose my Job and fear for my well being, I may steal or drink or I may seek another job or I may seek out charity or… There is more than one response to the fear that is caused by my situation. Not all are negative.

The fact that one person chooses to steal and another to find another route doesn’t make all humans flawed.

Why do you spend so much time here?
Because I love giving a reason for the hope that is in me. 🙂

And it gives me great pleasure to offer logical, reasoned responses to objections to my faith.

And when objectors’ responses border on the absurd, it makes me happy to know that the readers of this thread will see it and come to the Light.

Are you afraid that The Lord can’t handle it?

Personally I enjoy the interaction but sometimes it’s at the detriment of what I should be doing. It’s a comforting distraction to the fear and worries of life.

I am sorry that you have so many fears.

One of Christianity’s mantra is “Be not afraid!”.
