Christians Evangelizing Catholics (!)

Whoa! There is a man out there with what seems to be a full time mission “evangelizing” Catholics. How insulting. Bill Jackson’s not as big as Chick or Mission to Catholics but he has the same world view. Dr. Jackson even has a whole chapter devoted to him in Mr. Keating’s classic “Catholicism and Fundamentalism”.

He has a many “facts” on his website disparaging the Catholic faith. I browsed his “Noble Army of Heretics” link and was dismayed to read his view of history. Apparently any group of people outside of the Catholic Church are considered forerunners to Baptists, no matter what they believed, as long as they didn’t obey Church authority.

He has a “Catholic Apologetics” page which gives example after example of out-of-context quotes from our good friends Karl Keating, Scott Hahn, and others.

How do you deal with a man like this? Is he worth debating? Or is it a lost cause? The deceptions about the Church that are disseminated by men like Dr. Jackson, Jack Chick, and others make me sick.

I have to agree with Mickey. HOWEVER; this man is a good person to learn from. I recommend to study the “anti-Catholic” material so you know what they are saying about us and look up the truth in the CCC or other Catholic materials. Basically, so you know the answers before the attacks come.

BTW, I’m a former Catholic Basher protestant.

dhray is absolutely correct. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your faith by studying the attacks from the Catholic bashers. Not only do we grow in our own understanding, but we can help the misinformed to see the shining truth of the Catholic church. This in turn may lead to fruitful evangelization. Plant a seed in fertile ground, and let the Holy Spirit nourish it.🙂
 
Faith in Jesus is not up for debate. Just pry for the anti-Catholic Biggots and Buffet Line Christians out there as well as those who think Christ founded the Baptist church.

Like Barnum said, “There is sucker born every minute.” Those who Believe anti-Catholics is proof of that.

As faithful Catholics, we need to know what the anti’s are saying in order to correct them, or anyone who may fall victim to the lies. Just look at the number of Catholics who are being pulled away from the One True Faith by these lies. Karl Keating started a thread on just this topic.

Let me add my PET PEEVE…As a convert, I am really really tired of hearing from cradle Catholics…“I don’t know, that is just how we have always done things”. NO WONDER the anti’s are pulling Catholics out of the True Church. I know, that in no way applies to ALL cradles, my apologies to any I may offend, but can anyone tell me they have NOT heard this?.

I try never to waste an opportunity to evangelize those who try and evengelize ME.
 
We have those every where here. Not specifially Catholics, but if they know you are you aren’t a Christian in their eyes. They pass out flyers in super markets, at lines in restarants, at lines for the cinema, malls, public schools, or just leave them on your car any where. I wish I could find a cheap place to get flyers similar to Catholic Answers and carry them with me, so I can start passing them out in response. CA is good, but at $20 a packet, a bit pricey to donate in the bulk I want. And probably too thorough for them to read.
 
I was just thinking this morning, after getting torqued about some posting here, that the reason most of us come here is to hone our apologetics skills, and if these guys give us practice it’s like marines on the gunnery range, we need to learn when to shoot and when to duck.

Yeah, nobody likes people trying to convert them, huh?
 
We don’t mind, so long as they are prepared to be on the receiving end as well. It’s also nice if they avoid lying about our history and faith. Something to keep in mind.

I’m sorry Cestus, you burned any communication bridges with me when you started excusing Genocide. I have no interest in discussing anything with a person like that.
 
YAWN, rather I denied we committed genocide. Don’t like losing do you? I love freethinkers who all sound alike and say exactly the same things. All to often they never do their homework. Not wise on this board.

No you denied nothing. You said “people were killing each other before the church” in response to the issue of the genocide of mesoamerica. That isn’t a denial, its just a rationalization. Try to spin it all you want but the proof is right there in the thread. Your name right above an excuse for mass murder. You have to live with that.
 
As I said, I deny we committed genocide. I did point out that violence and mass murder pre-date Christianity. Apparently that fact is a struggle for you. Your inability to comprehend what I wrote is…baffling. But given your poor and biased grasp of history perhaps understandable. You will have to live with your ignorance. Unless you choose to be open minded. Here is a brief tidbit that your propaganda sources may have left out:

I know onw guy who’s actually pulled a couple of people into the Catholic Faith, of not the Catholic Church, which means they no longer “Catholic Bash”. A few of these were Protestant Ministers.

He uses the Scriptures, which he knows as well as any Protestant Minister, and he’s not afraid to call Protestants on their false interpretations of the Scriptures that are favorable to the Catholic Church and the Sacraments. He’s also not afraid to question whether their Churches are in conformity with those Scriptures. And, he’s not afraid to insist that the discussions be civil and that they treat him as a fellow Christian.

I don’t know what we do with those who won’t be polite, refuse to listen and insist that we’re “Going to hell”. I guess then we have to remember that, “They’ll know we are Christians by our love,” not by our consigning others to hell. Hopefully, returning blessing for curse will start the process of breaking down the wall of resistance and the hostility.

I don know one thing has to change. I know a 77 year-old woman who’s a lifelong Catholic. She didn’t know that Jesus had claimed to be God. I showed her the Scriptures.

It wouldn’t mean anything except for the fact that I had been drug into my Church by an Orthodox Rabbi some 6 months before that conversation.

We also need to be more confident about the authority of the Church which declared those Scriptures to be Canonical and gave us the Great Creeds of Our Faith.

Mickey, you’re right. I’m Orthodox, not Catholic, and we were all annoyed a few years ago when the Baptists put out a Manual for their ‘missionaries’ in Russia on how to convert Russian Orthodox to the Baptist religion.

Well, it turned out to be a kind of mini-catechism of the Orthodox faith and it has actually brought people into the Church instead of turning people away from it as the Baptists were planning 😃

you’re right we need more non-catholic guys to practice. like atheists, muslims and satanists. but those anti-catholic chick “christians” are filled with hatred and probably not worthy of being our practice target.
read the anti-Catholic materials and be proud of being a Catholic
