Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Lord, hear our prayers!

A little sensitivity and understanding that Christmas can be a very different experience for different people goes a long way. I wish people wouldn’t say “that wouldn’t feel like Christmas to me” in response to someone else’s circumstances.

Agree totally. and to took me decades to arrive where I am, happy alone in human terms and not trying to live up to the “norm” others have created.

Christmas is in the heart, not in crowds

Irony here is that I am down with a very very severe chill so no way would I be going anywhere as well as the storms here now!

Far away family are suggesting I postpone Christmas until Feb, the original date for it …

So enjoy all you can. I have everything I need in and will have such a lovely quiet and prayerful time! I did my outings and farewells etc. so the world is happy

I live far from home too, and although I’m lucky to be able to go home for Xmas very briefly this year, the time around the holiday can be a bummer. I grew up in the rural Midwest and now I live in a tiny apartment in a major city. Most of the time, I couldn’t be happier. Right now though, I just want to be 7 years old and spend the day sledding and eating cookies.

So…I’ve spent the last week making my favorite childhood foods - almost all of them are my grandma’s recipes. I have a friend who is a social worker, so I helped her pull together a really great Christmas celebration for her clients (all of them are court ordered to see her for drug treatment as a condition of their release from prison) and that was a heartwarming experience. And I started a Christmas photo album on Facebook. Anytime I see a restaurant, house, person, or scene that just screams ‘Christmas!’ I take a pic. It helps me keep my eyes open for those small nostalgic moments.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Thank you and same to you!

It is great that you were involved in that project and helped them have a great Christmas.

We will have guests on Christmas day after all. A friend and her daughter, both new converts so the extended family doesn’t celebrate Christmas. We just areanged it yesterday so I better do some shopping. I am so excited. 😃

I followed this thread and I am so glad to hear this. God heard your desires, and the prayers. I remember my first “Christmas in exile” in a state far from home. We were very sad and anxious about not being home for Christmas, but we had friends over that day, another couple also not home for Christmas, and it was a memorable sweet Christmas after all! Low expectations helps, and God blessed our day.

The Holy Family lived in exile in Egypt, also strangers in a strange land, missing home, so do remember that their hearts are always with you.

Yes. No better way to stop contemplating our own loneliness than to offer hospitality to others. I am glad that I got this opportunity and I hope my guests will have a lovely day.
