The Iraqis have had to deal with great challenges through the last 25 years. Going from Saddam to a new way in 2003, to now having to deal with ISIL. The following video is about how displaced Christians in Iraq are spending their time during Christmas this year

For many of us here in the USA , we are fortunate to have a home, a car, a good job. For many of us American Catholics/Christians, we are able to have an enjoyable Christmas. For many Iraqi Christians, life in Iraq was a good life. But with ISIL on the rise, many Iraqi Christians(as well as Yazidis and Muslims) have had to flee their homes and are now living in refugee camps.

Habiba Daud remembers Christmas in Qaraqosh as beautiful. The festivities would start days before with the preparation of traditional food and desserts. Families celebrated around a large Christmas tree.*
  • On Christmas her family and friends gathered to enjoy the food and spend time together, chatting and playing with the children.
Code:
This year will be the second Christmas Daud will spend away from her home, against her wishes. In August 2014, Islamic State fighters seized Qaraqosh, a city less than 20 miles southeast of Mosul.
In the first weeks the displaced lived in tents and temporary shelters in parks and churches. Today in Ainkawa, there are eight camps where refugees live in plastic trailers locals call “caravans.” Many rent apartments or live with friends and family in others parts of Iraq.

The Iraqi Nun in the video above says the Catholic Church has been supplying humanitarian aid to the many displaced Iraqi people, and that amid everything, Christ is still alive in Iraq. The Christian Iraqis faith in Jesus remains strong even amid displacement from their homes.

I think we should all pray for the displaced Iraqi Christians, Muslims, Yazidis and any Iraqis who have had to flee their homes amid the threat of ISIL. I also find that its nice to see how the Church is helping the good people of Iraq during this time of year. ISIL might have some territory in Iraq, but ISIL cant take away Christmas from the Iraqi people, ISIL cant stop the Church from helping the people of Iraq.

I have so much love and respect for these fellow Christians. Praying hard daily for them.
