Like the chestnut that they (I don’t know who) “laughed at him for saying the world was round but he proved it by sailing around the world”.No, most people in Europe had no idea he existed, and no one doubted the world is round, and even if they had he didn’t prove it is because he didn’t sail around the world. He sailed about 1/12th of the distance around the world.
