I thought it was supposed to be St Brendan who discovered America? 😛

Not to mention that because of the lack of serious proof for that fairy tale story of the Vikings the aim is to bring down Columbus in the hopes to make way for the Viking story.

And, he is buried in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The Spaniards just need to get over it. They want to attract tourists to Spain and claim that Christopher Columbus is buried there. Well, he is not. Shame on them for claiming such and for not recognizing the Grand Admiral’s wish to be buried in the land that he loved - Hispaniola.

I find any other ‘alternative’ to the authentic life of Columbus to be reprehensible and rightly belongs to urban legend or to be ignored. Mostly, the alternatives are an indirect attack of bigotry against Italians and I think people who are like that need to be rejected because you can’t discuss things rationally with them. They are like the people who continue to believe that our government was in back of the 9/11 events.

Why don’t you read the biography of the one who was closest to him - his son? His son traveled several times with him across the Atlantic to the New World. Though they did not have the best or relationships, I consider the son’s testimony as closest to the truth.

Some of that stuff does seem silly & there’s probably no way he was in a witness protection program or a spy, but I still think the man gets too much credit.
 
I recall reading someplace the story of a Native American chief who flew to Rome and discovered Italy, and claimed it for his tribe. 😃
