who are they and why Thanksgiving and then Independence day?
They are the angry mobs who pull down statues, and like-minded rewriters of history. They won’t be satisfied until nothing remains which honors European explorers, settlers, and colonists, not to mention enslavers. Thanksgiving and Independence Day do just that.

do you think the Confederate Statues should have stayed up or are you glad they were torn down/taken down?

And many prayers being said for you teddy, as it seems you have been through so much! May Jesus hold you in the palms of his hands!!!

I would like to email the school superintendent about this and other concerns I have about what’s being taught for a 3rd grade since I do have the email of the superintendent. Am I am afraid once my son’s teacher finds out about my complains he is going to be treated differently or kicked out of school because of the crazy world we are living in. Even if I am anonymous when I email the superintendent they will find out and both my son and I might be in trouble. Should I risk of being in trouble and email anyway?
The Superintendent ultimately works for you. The Superintendent reports to the Board of Education and as a voter & tax payer, the Board answers to you.

If you child is attacked and kicked out because of you, then you will have every right to sue & I’m sure https://www.becketlaw.org or another group would gladly represent you.

Have you talked to and tried to educate the teacher? Have you considered taking your child out of that class or school? Have you considered homeschool?

I am unhappy that they were taken down. I am not familiar with the story behind each statue, but certainly some were quite noble. For example, General Robert E. Lee was a good man, before, during, and after the war, but try telling that to a mob who knows nothing of history.

What is your opinion on the removal of Confederate statues?

Columbus was also a lousy governor, brought slaves back to Spain, and initiated contact that led to the deaths of millions.
He was a lousy governor because he was too weak to command the men under his control, and in some sources I’ve heard the “slaves” he brought back to Spain were actually just guests. As for the last point, that’s hardly his fault - Christopher Columbus should not be blamed for the Trail of Tears or the Wounded Knee Massacre or other deaths that happened after his time and caused by other people.

We need to keep Christopher Columbus in the context of the era he lived in, and not judge him with a 21st Century mindset.
This is the normal way history scholars approach their subject manner. The people who criticize any historical figure from a modern perspective are simply stupid. Unfortunately, teaching nowadays is often poor quality and/ or the teacher has an agenda not focused on scholarship.

Don’t use an email to communicate. Send an anonymous letter. But know that it will most likely be ignored if sent anonymously.
Why? I’d just send an email. It really isn’t that big of deal.
Except next they’ll be coming after Thanksgiving, and then Independence Day.
Nobody is going after Thanksgiving and Independence Day.

This is a pretty inaccurate thing to say, especially when swiping it with such a wide brush to say it happens often (a majority of the time?).

Because the OP feared that their child would be singled out once the teacher heard about the complaint. Emails are not anonymous. They will know who it’s from.

Understood, but I don’t see the child being singled out for a polite email to the school asking if this is indeed approved curriculum for 3rd grade. Emails aren’t anonymous, but they create a “paper” trail.

If OP wants to be anonymous, I’d pick up the phone and call.

Oh, the child could easily be singled out. Phone calls are not anonymous anymore. Everyone has caller ID these days.

I doubt it… 🤷‍♂️ Just be polite about it.

I guess I wouldn’t be worried about the school reverse-looking up a number. I just don’t think the school leadership is going to see this question as such a big deal they will somehow start a conspiracy against one child who’s parent asked a question and start blackballing them.

Not the school, the teacher.

Let’s just say that people know their school districts and the school and teachers their child deals with. I am happy that you would not have a problem, but for others, it is real. Please don’t make light of a real issue that people do have sometimes.

Yes, individuals, some of which are teachers, sometimes become unhinged when challenged in their beliefs. I have family that haven’t spoken to me in years just because I politely tried to explain some reasons why the USA is not “the worst.” I didn’t say anything political (or at least I don’t see patriotism as political).
