Christ's DNA

The genetic material for Christ’s DNA came from his mother, but this material was rearranged so that Christ would be the perfect image of His father. There was nothing
of a sexual nature in the process, such as fertilization. It was purely a genetic
engineering miracle from the human point of view. This is one reason why Christ is
called a new creation.

Who cares…it doesn’t matter. Accept Jesus as the only Son of God and that’s all that is necessary.

The Eucharistic miracle in Lanciano.

And the Shroud of Turin contain DNA.

Jesus received his Human Nature from Mary. She also was from the house & family of David.

Beyond that, God created everything from nothing so any speculation is irrelevant. God just has to think something to bring it into existence. He is not subject to the same laws of science. He created science. LOL! It is for us to believe with faith. The how doesn’t matter.

I think it does not matter what the dna of Jesus was or is, as He was a man as well as the Son of God. If one were to find Christs dna it would only show His human side not His divine side.Furthermore, our faith as Catholic’s believing in Christs Resurection is what is important, simply because the dna would not prove anything more than Jesus was a man.DNA would not prove Jesus was Divine.

I take issue with these sorts of “boxed in” questions. These are a dime a dozen from the scientific community (of which I am becoming a member). The general gist is to pose a question that is on the surface a very black and white answer type question but is in reality forcing the person they are asking it to to completely leave out any chance/occurence of the supernatural so as not to sound silly or of low intellectual sophistication.
Couldn’t Jesus have had an entirely unique genome made by the hand of God which needed neither nucleic acid contribution from Mary nor Joseph? I don’t know if he did, but he certainly could have. He changed the fundamental chemistry of water, after all. So, what does it matter?
Science should have nothing to say about the supernatural, by definition. They are shaming us into denying the possibility of supernatural occurences which forces us to try and explain everything naturally. It’s a fools errand, in my opinion.
This answer nails it. This type of question is not a question but an attempt at revealing the absurdity of belief. Before you jump on me I am not criticizing the person that started the tread but I am being critical of the so called “scientific” who pose such questions nor am I saying that I think belief is absurd.

In reply to M1 Garand thoughts, I am not sure where the comments are going? however, It seems to me that if one’s faith is based on what Christ’s DNA is, then that faith is false. Science will never be able to prove whether or not Jesus is the Son of God. science can only prove that He was a man, a human being. our faith is based on the Apostles word that Jesus is truly the Son of God as well as the Son of Man, that He truly rose from the dead. To believe that Christ said who he is is also to say we believe because of the Apostles belief in Jesus. If DNA is important to one’s believing in Christ is not faith at all. Even if by science could prove that Jesus is divine, there would still be many who would refuse to believe in Jesus as Son of God.

Anyone that has never had any doubts is truly blessed. Many people have wavered. Perhaps that is why there are Eucharistic miracles at all. Even the priest at Lanciano had his problems.

Even for the fortunate few that have never had any problems with the depth of their faith these Eucharistic miracles have stimulated increased awareness of what is truly going on at the altar.

Howdy LA Cadien:

‘What does it matter’?When I encountered this inquiry in my early years of childhood education it perplexed my spirit. The following statements by Albert Einstein may help you find something to answer this as I have.

Einstein said ’ I know quite certainly that I myself have no special talent;
curiosity, obsession and dogged endurance combined with self-criticism
have brought me to my ideas’.

A postscript from A.Einstein presents another statement to ponder:
Code:
' It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education'.

As an engineer who’s going into medicine, I’m no stranger nor enemy to curiosity. However, I don’t see genuine curiosity in this type of question, I see an agenda or at least a strategy.

That’s not a shot at the OP nor her spouse, necessarily. I’ve asked a many of question that were not really my questions but that I picked up along the way and thought through very little before repeating to others.

I have to agree with lector101 as to the thoughts made. There are plenty of miracles every day if one opens the eyes to see. Not all miracles are such that they readily seen for what they are, but it seems to me that most miracles are those that most of us do not see, yet when we, do, it brings us closer to God. I think sometimes we forget that the Eucharistic Host is the truely Body and Blood of Christ. That is a miracle in of itself that Christ comes to us in the form od bread and wine.

Science is the means of proving something is or is not. Science connot prove God does or not exist, nor will it prove whether or not Jesus is who He said He is. All we have in the end id the word of the Apostles that Jesus is truely who He said He is. For example, the Shroud of Turan and the Dna of it is all fine and good but it will never prove that the Shroud is the one that covered Christ in the toumb. However, one can certaintly believe that it did and it can also bring one closer to God.I guess knowing what Christ’s DNA is or was could bring one closer to God if one’s faith does not depend on knowing it.Science can also bring one closer to God as long as it is not the basis in that faith is only held together by science.

And I thought of something else. What about Adam? As far as we know, there was no male nor female contribution for his birth. As stated before, our Heavenly Father can do the impossible. He could have made Jesus out of air if He wanted to. But, the way Jesus was born was a true miracle and I am grateful that I have a Mother (Holy) I can go to because now I do not have one. Plus, I believe faith is the key to our beliefs and I for one accept Jesus as He was conceived and have no doubt or need to know about human male contribution pertaining to His birth.

And even thinking of cloning Jesus makes me think we would deserve the meteor that would cover earth. :tsktsk: 😉

God Bless,
Love y’all §

100% of Jesus’ DNA would have to be from Mary. Jesus is human through Mary, whereas God, the Father, has no DNA. Jesus’ divinity is immaterial.

I agree that DNA would have to come from Mary His Mother as the Father in heaven through the Holy Spirit came upon her at her accecptance of the Divine offer to be the Mother of te Son of God. God Himself doesnot need DNA nor would He have one.

If 100% of Jesus’ DNA were from Mary then Jesus would have been a duplicate of Mary. Jesus would have been female and would have looked and sounded exactly like Mary - a veritable twin.

Jesus is fully human, and all humans have a maternal strand and a paternal strand. Jesus got his maternal strand from Mary and his paternal strand from the Holy Spirit. How it was done is a mystery. Mary even says that it is a mystery.

But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” (Luke 1:34)

How God did it is a miracle. The angel even says so.

…for nothing will be impossible for God. (Luke 1:37)

What???! “I see an agenda”- oh my. You do not know my husband nor his intentions in this question to say such a thing- such is the misunderstandings that can happen so easily in emails or other written forms as such of communication. I am sorry but I assure you my husband is a sincere Christian interest in science and has these random questions of curiosity, not disbelief ever because he loves The Lord!
I apologize if I didn’t make this clear.

Miz: I apologize , it was not my intention to offend. There is nothing wrong having an interest in science. Never thought your husband had disbelief or did not love the Lord. Curiosity is a way of wanting to know or understand something and nothing is wrong with that either. Its a valid question about what Jesus’ DNA might be or was. However, science will never be able to prove or answer the question one way or the other concerning the DNA of Jesus. The Shroudof Turin according to the Catholic Church is a tool of devotion to bring one closer to God. The Catholic Church does not say the Shroud of Turin is or is not the actual Burial shroud of Christ. So one either believe it is or not. In the end the DNA found on the Shroud of Turin will never be known to actually the DNA of Christ or not. Your original question you posed was " If Jesus was fully man and fully God, what was His DNA as a human?" This was the question I tried to answer. These type of questions asked in a forum opens up opinions of what others might think and give answers to leading to dicussions as to the question posed. Not everyone will have the same opinion or answer to a question asked. I also think one does not have to agree with any answer or opinion given. I don’t know about any agenda or strategy from any of the answers or opinion that have been given in this forum, I know I did not have any on my part. I thought the opinions and answers that were given by me and by others were sincere in trying to answer your question. In the end some questions will forever remain unanswered and the mystery will of it will aways be a mystery to us. Thank you.

My husband posed a question to me today that I wasn’t sure how to answer. (I converted a couple years ago and he is now studying the Catholic faith. He is very “science” minded)

Here is his question: If Jesus was fully man and fully God, what was his DNA as a human?
(He was reading the beginning of Matthew where there is a long lineage line and this popped into his head)

Any answers?

Thank you,
mlz
The blood and the DNA from the Turin Shroud were analyzed and book was published with the title ‘The DNA of God ?’ by Dr. Garza-Valdes. The blood type is AB, the same as the blood type of the blood on the Sudarium of Oviedo and of the blood in the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano. Some of the genome sequence is given in the book.

Thank you Sszorin for your information. I have read the book The DNA of God by Dr. Garcia-Vaides and I agree with you as to what he wrote. However, it does not prove that the DNA is actually Jesus’ DNA. It is something either one believes it is or not. I happen to believe it is. Yet there will those for one reason or another who will question it and refuse to believe. All one can do is to either believe the word of someone that it is so or not. It is the same with Christainity. We only have the word of the Apostles that Jesus is truly the Son of God and the Son of Man which has been handed down from them through the Catholic Church to the present time. We Believe because they believed and they passed on that belief to others as our deposit of faith which the Catholic Church holds dear and gives it to us without change or distortion. Sadly not everyone will believe or come to believe, so it with the DNA of Jesus. I think you have answered the question posed by Miz better than I could. thanks again

Slow your roll. I said this “type” of question. I’m not saying you nor your husband had an agenda with this question. That’s why I said “that’s not a shot at the OP or her spouse”. I don’t know how else to qualify that I wasn’t implicating a person, but a type of question.
This question and many like it are a dime a dozen in the new atheist forums. They are meant to be unanswerable or at least unverifiable and generally leave the christians squirming and twisting trying to come up with something suitable to say.

Does this include how Jesus was born male with a y chromosome?
