Christ’s y chromosome came from Mary’s DNA. Obviously, she didn’t have a y chromosome, but she did have enough genetic material to fashion a y chromosome from, since any woman has a lifetime supply of eggs. No genetic material was supplied from outside, but the entire genetic basis of Christ was refashioned by the Holy Spirit so that he duplicated in appearance his father, not Mary, his mother.

I think that you make a good case If Jesus is the Son of Man he would of course have human gens, yet, being also the Son of God ad God being a Spirit he would not have human genes so while we can certainly prove that Jesus was a man we will not be able to prove in a scientific manor tat Jesus is the Son of God, that is and can only be on fait that it is so.

This is extremely simple…

Everyone human has two strands of DNA. Jesus is fully human and so he has two strands of DNA. We have one maternal strand from our mother and one paternal strand from our father. Jesus got his maternal strand from Mary.
Does Jesus have a second strand of DNA? Yes. Is it paternal, No. Where did it come from? “Nothing is impossible for God”. We will find out how it works when we die.
Brother Jay has a doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. Cardinal Ratzinger was one of his professors. His simple and sublime explanation is at forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=11288833&postcount=13

One DNA strand came from Mary and the other DNA strand came from God. That’s it. Please don’t guess or make things up. Listen to Dr. Br. Jay and don’t make it more complex than it has to be.

Christ is not the product of two different things brought together, either by sex (as the Mormons believe) or any other method. He is a totally new creation, the second Adam, the first Adam being the first creation.

Christ was prophesied in Jer. 31:22 “… A woman shall compass a man.” Nature can provide examples of species where females may give birth to other females without impregnation, but they never give birth to males. This prophecy is notable because it implies a great miracle beyond nature. It doesn’t imply that any outside source was employed to supply the male portion of the genetic makeup. In other words, only the female genetic substance is used in the miracle to create the required male portion.

Also, Christ’s coat was of one piece, not two or more sewn together. Clothing in the scriptures symbolically represents the physical body.

That makes sense to me but weren’t there some posters in older threads about this subject who then argued that since Jesus is 100% human and 100% divine, that doesn’t work for some reason?

*That this theory doesn’t work for some reason?

Brother Jay said that Jesus doesn’t have a paternal strand of DNA because He had no human father but that He does have a second strand of DNA, that “nothing is impossible for God.”
I must’ve misread his take on it at first because I thought he meant that since there was no paternal DNA, Jesus only had the one strand, coming from His mother.
When he says “nothing is impossible for God” he means Jesus got this second strand of DNA from God, right?

Why is this such a matter for conjecture?

Did not A&E each have full suites of human DNA (male/female) despite neither having human progenitors?

Certainly our LORD’s Y Chromosome would be less miraculous than all of their DNA?

IMO, Adam and Eve were just the first to be given souls.

If A&E’s progenitors did not have human souls, they were animals.

If they had human DNA, they were human beings with human souls.

So whatever A&E’s parents were, A&E were first to have purely human DNA.

I’m not here to argue, just here to learn. I subscribe to Ed Feser, and Dr. Kenneth Kemp’s take on Adam and Eve, and Brother Jay’s take on Jesus’ DNA.
I come here to learn but always end up reading nothing but arguments. I may bow out of posting for Lent and only PM. Haven’t decided.

100% of Jesus’ DNA would have to be from Mary. Jesus is human through Mary, whereas God, the Father, has no DNA. Jesus’ divinity is immaterial.
I don’t think so. That would have made Jesus a female near-clone of His mother, Mary.
