Church abuse report 'will shock'

There has been corruption within the clergy for centuries prior, and not necessarily for sexual abuse. The priests and bishops are imperfect people just like you and me. Pray for them, and pray for the victims.
 
Will someone please explain why priests have for years sexually abused children and how it can possibly continue???
 
I’m getting sick and tired of these damn filthy priests and bishops. I’m sick and tired of defending the Catholic Church because of these homo clergy. I am tired of it.

Any of these monsters who did/hide these filthy deeds needs to be drummed out of the Church.

St. John Chrysostom said that the road to hell is paved with skulls of bishops. I certainly believe it.:mad:

Was John Egan a liberal? Isn’t he the priest from Boston who is now celebrating Mass at the Vatican? I wouldn’t necessarily think this is a liberal/conservative issue but I honestly have no idea.

Quite simply, no.

I live in a diocese very hard hit by clerical sex abuse. When the Church didn’t do anything about it, the government stepped in and set up a judicial inquiry to investigate. That inquiry produced a report which made for shocking reading.

I read it and one of the things that struck me most (after I had stopped throwing up) was how many of the clerical abusers listed were priests who were ordained before 1965 - in other words, men who had grown up, trained for the priesthood and been ordained in an Ireland where Catholicism permeated every aspect of life, and in a society that not by any stretch of the imagination could be considered ‘liberal’.

BTW the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin is a man of exceptional courage and integrity who is fully committed to exposing the truth about clerical abuse in his diocese - often in the face of opposition and obstruction from other church leaders. There are some who would consider him ‘liberal’ but IMO he is one of the ‘good guys’. Please remember him in your prayers as he takes the flak for things that happened long before he became Archbishop.

I don’t see what could make the scandal any more shocking than it already is. We know that there was sexual abuse, we know that the Bishops knew what was going on, we know that the Holy See knew what was going on, we know that the Bishops and Holy See virtually turned the Church into a haven for pedophiles, and we know that the Holy See threatened priests, bishops, and victims with excommunication if they went to the authorities without express permission from the Pope.

Pedophilia does not even imply homosexuality.

That still does not mean that any of those priests are attracted exclusively to the same sex… Every study conducted into the gender preference of pedophiles reveals that less than 1% of pedophiles are attracted exclusively to the same sex.

Perhaps because male children/teens were more available to them?

As far as I know, pedophiles may be sexually attracted to children of the same gender, the opposite gender, or to both genders. Hebephiles are usually attracted to adolescent males - 14-17 years - but hebephiles (and pedophiles) can be female, too

If this had been a corporation, speaking of the US here, most if all of the bishops would have beens acked. Their knowledge of what went on has no excuse.

You don’t find this kind of scandal in the Orthodox church. I know a number of catholics who have recently converted to Orthodoxy over the continuing scandals - political too as in the USCB funding of ACORN for years and years.

Rod Dreher was a prominent Texas convert from evangelicalism to Catholcisim. he is/was editor of the Dallas daily paper.

In any case he recently very publicly converted to Orthodox in large part because of the US priest scandal and the failure of the bishops.

The Notre Dame thing will just add fuel to the fire. Its likely the conversion of orthodox Catholics to Eastern Orthodoxy will accelerate IMO.

Not apparently. Look at the LofC. Patrick Madrid noted on his blog that a major cover-up of what or who knew what in the LofC is suspected and being investigated now.

Why is it that most went after boys??? They liked outers rather than inners. :cool::eek:

Correct-and there was almost no pediophilia involved in the sexual abuse scandal-at least that is he case in the US. 92% of the cases were homosexual rape of post pubsecent boys.

Again the incidence of pediohilia in the sexual abuse scandal was minor.

Thank the Lord for your response. Most of the nasty attacks of priests have been against TEENAGERS which makes it a HOMOSEXUAL ATTACK.

I hate when people try to defend the soul killing homosexual activities of priests. An adult priest who attacks a teenage boy is a HOMOSEXUAL ATTACKER, no matter how you try to turn it around.

By the way, I’m a staunch Catholic.
 
Unfortunately, the reality is that pedophiles find their way into positions that will give them access to children. The media love to play up the priestly angle because it’s shocking and it undermines the Catholic Church’s mission. That is not to excuse the priests or the bishops who covered up for these pedophiles. I am just saying that this kind of abuse happens just as often in public schools, within families, by scout leaders and coaches, etc. The media could hype the story up and make everyone just as outraged at coaches, for instance, but they choose not to. The enemy is pedophilia wherever it is found. It’s sad that children abused by the “wrong” type of perpetrator (i.e. coaches, family) don’t get the same kind of media spotlight on their stories and so children continue to be endangered by our society’s trust and ignorance.

EDIT: Others have mentioned that pedophilia is uncommon among priests, as it was more commonly adolescent boys that were victimized. The elephant in the room continues to be active homosexuals in the priesthood.
