Wow—didn’t know the anti-pant fanaticism was encompassing the FSSP too. Well–if you decide to attend Mass with your brother and his family-- suggest a dress/skirt. If you show up in a pant-suit–some people at Mass might look at you as if you grew horns.
Well some people perhaps might. But my question is would Jesus think you grew horns? Would He say, maam, you can not be in My house with Me today because you are in a pant suit?

NO matter what the CHurcch says, people go to mass even with shorts when it is air contioned. YOu must reralize that upon entering a church it is like being in heaven because God is present and it is God’s home.
Yes, but… God made us naked. He has no issues with our naked bodies. He finds them “good” and beautiful. He sees right through any polyester skirt or mantilla that you find so flattering. He was NOT pleased when Adam and Eve felt the need to cover themselves with fig leaves. That wasn’t cool by him at all. The only issues we have now is with our fellow man. Not dressing in a way to distract - that is a good and holy thing. Worrying about a mantilla being flattering… that is silly.

Sure wish everyone paid more attention to the real presence in the tabernacle and less to what they or their neighbor were wearing.

The pictures of the plus size models…

I have gone to a few Daily EF Masses (Low Masses) at a parish that does mainly Ordinary Form Masses, and offers 1 or 2 EF Masses a week. I would say about 1/4 to 1/2 of the females wear headcoverings (mainly mantillas). Most people tend to err on the side of conservative even if a few women were wearing a dressy sleeveless shirt (not tank/spaghetti strapped) with capris as the church is in a tourist area and men wearing a nice shirt with khakis (a few had jeans, long nice shorts, or dress pants instead).
Who determines those models are plus size?

Did the few women in dressy sleeveless shirts and capris and the men in long nice shorts receive Christ too in the Eucharist?

For a traditionalist who attends a TLM parish where skirts are the norm, stepping out into the world where pants rule the day can be quite jarring.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. I posted plus sized models because I most often hear complaints from bigger women that they look terrible in skirts.

Honestly, which looks better? Exposed shoulders and back of the dress aside, which is more modest in terms of keeping the private areas of the body hidden?

(If you wear the maxi dress to Mass though, please wear a cover up for your shoulders! 😉
It seems people can’t read. I asked, honestly, which choice of clothing conceals the private areas of the woman’s body better? Not in an x-ray manner either, sheesh.

I asked to disregard the shoulders and back of the dress as I only posted that one because it was the only one I could find of the chest being properly covered and a back shot.

I posted pictures taken from Lane Bryant - a self described plus-sized clothing store. The models are plus sized as per their job description, not according to my opinion!

I did not ask which one would be more tempting - just simply, which looks nicer and which conceals the private areas of the body? And I’m sorry to say, most plus sized women, most women actually, do not dress in a way that takes that into account. That is a picture of pants that fit, that’s what your rear looks like in pants that fit, i.e. unless you’re wearing a tunic length top, I can see your thighs and bumm in an unflattering way!

And this has got to be one of the most ignorant comments I’ve ever seen!
NO ONE at an FSSP parish who is sane will care if you wear pants to Mass! Many women do, and usually if they stick around awhile, they begin wearing skirts out their own conviction. Really! No one forces them!

I really wonder what is with the trolls on this board who lay in wait to pounce on anyone with a traditional mindset. No one wonder I rarely come here.

Really–you were the one who showed up with the pictures–how “jarring” it is to see women wearing pants–and the covering of private parts. So if a woman attended your Mass wearing pants–yea I’d say by your post—YOU would zero in on that. As to women --if they stick around --begin wearing skirts “out of their own conviction”—more likely because in some way and/or form–people like you make them feel as if they don’t fit in–unless they turn to wearing skirts.

As far as I being a troll. I’ve been here posting in this particular forum for quite a number of years—and the majority (if not all) on the side of Traditionalists–and yes–this included the SSPX. This is until I started to take a good look and realized–that there is a faction of “Traditionalists” going so far to the right–they are falling of the edge.

I have no issues with women wearing pants to church as long as they are not tight & revealing. My mother has worn pants to church even when I was a child (and does to this day) but she remembers a time when pants were forbidden for women to wear to Mass.

I would prefer that both men and women wear modest yet decent/clean clothes for Mass. No one is asking to return to the days when everyone dressed up for Sunday Mass in their Sunday dressy outfits. But still there are many showing up wearing clothing more suitable for sports, swimming, concerts or a party plus often are immodest and/or vulgar.

I find myself dressing up more now for OF Masses as the EF Mass has influenced me to not be so casually dressed for Mass even if I was wearing an non-vulgar slogan tee shirt & regular pair of pants. I have repented my past ways, and make sure my future fashion selections are modest & appropriate for both the office & Mass.

I found nothing at the normal fabric store here, but we have one that sells fabric for sewing wedding dresses. They have racks and racks of lace…at bridal prices.😦
at bridal prices… that must be pricey 😦
I am reading this thread and please I sincerely do not want this to be taken wrongly. But I have to ask with all sincerity and respect, because it is scaring me a bit. Is this what the faith has become? Concerns about and the importance of the color of the lace and measurements of a mantilla a woman wears?
I’m sure that for the people here, their faith is more than about the measurements of a mantilla. 🙂 but we’re talking about it to figure out what would be appropriate and not distracting in Mass.
Personally, I do not consider the dress at all modest because of its backless nature and would not wear it–or allow my daughter to wear it–either in church or anywhere else. From a standpoint of modesty, I think that the dress would cause more problems for most people than the pants would.
I wouldn’t wear something backless either, or in fact sleeveless (unless I’m at home), but you can just put a cardigan over it 🙂 that’s typically what I do… or those short tops that button up at the front, they usually go with most dresses, and they cover the shoulders. As long as the dress is not low cut, it works out…

Before the fall, Adam and Eve didn’t wear clothes. But after the fall, it was actually God who made coverings for them (I don’t mean the leaves, but other, better coverings). What God said to them, is “who told you that you are naked” - maybe they weren’t supposed to have a notion of this at all, because they weren’t fallen so couldn’t sin by impurity/lust/immodesty. Modesty is necessary in our fallen world because people sin now. It says later in Genesis:
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
God bless 🙂

KBernadette, I can read but I thought you meant when you had asked me “how about this one”.

But to answer your other questions. The private areas are covered with material, thus concealed in both. I think the dress looks very nice whether the model is a plus size or not. The pants could be paired with a top which would make a very nice outfit as well.

If no one forces them too, I wonder though if some of the women at the FSSP parish might begin wearing skirts because just through observation of what others are wearing, they have been made to feel out of place.

I did not come as a troll. I simply saw the thread about attire and became involved in discussion because I’ve always found the topic of some interest. I apologze though if only traditionalists are allowed to partake in discussion and offer opinions. I have nothing personal against anyone who has a traditional mindset. I just could not attend such a church personally where attire is such a focus. What I don’t understand though is if traditionalists are the orthodox and most faithful of the faith, then those who don’t subscribe to the traditionalist dress code, are what? Less Catholic?

That’s all I was doing too. Talking about it. Peace and God bless! 👍

I wear about to the knee (I’m kinda on the tall side) cargo shorts to church. Jesus walked in sandals. I honestly believe He has more important matters for us to be concerned with than our attire or the attire of others at Mass. I believe He welcomes all and is just glad when we are there.
1 hour of wearing pants going to kill you?

No I’m not going to pat myself on the back. But seriously not much about attire bothers me in church. Sure I might notice flip flops or what have you. I’ve seen women in various outfits. I even remember last Christmas, a gentleman came with a Santa cap. A woman I recall came in a red and green fleece jogging outfit. I might notice as they walk by or enter the pew. But I guess attire of others simply is not a main focus of mine there.
As the other posted posted good for you, God has given you the gift of not being distracted my certain fashions. Unfortunatly for some of us, like me, some women or so attractive and are just screaming for attention that it’s hard not to notice. You really should pat your self on back 👍

1 hour of wearing pants going to kill you?
Probably not but living in the south I am often in shorts and for instance I could be out and then instead of wasting gas and going home to change, I might stop for church while I am out… But I also wear them when I leave straight from home to go directly to church. I honestly believe Jesus doesn’t care. He’s just glad to see me I believe.

But no, regarding my focus, I’m not going to pat myself on the back. I’m no greater than the next person. I’ve never had it happen but a good looking female could enter in a swimsuit and I’m not going to sit there all during the Mass thinking wow how I want to be in a hot tub with her right now. It’s mostly a matter of what i choose to focus on in church I guess. God bless!

question…

how do we not feel judgemental about someone at Mass if they are wearing a tank top and very short shorts, talking throughout half the Mass, etc? I’m having trouble avoiding judgemental thoughts… even if I push the thoughts away, they still come as temptations. Pray with your eyes closed for the whole Mass? 😛

I’ve seen people so immersed in a sports game --that they are oblivious to what happens around them. You may try to immersed yourself in the Mass. It works for sports–why not for Mass.

This is untrue.
Sorry. I didn’t mean to offend. I should’ve said, its not common, for I have yet to see it, in my parish and churches I have visited that the women actually dress conservative modest.

Seems kinda the opposite at the churches I have been to. Where the norm seems to be shorts and tank tops. Sometimes even miniskirts and see through shirts

This is something unique to men. Their brains function differently than women’s, which allows them to focus on one thing, and block out everything else. Women, on the other hand are multi-taskers and focus on a variety of things.

No not unique to men–for I have seen women just as involved in doing just that. Have you ever read a book that you really find interesting–that you immerse yourself in reading–blocking out the noise/commotion/etc. Yea–women can do that too.

We always called them our “Sunday go to meeting clothes.” 😉
When I was younger, living at home with my parents, that is what we had also. We dressed nice for Mass and when we got home we would change into our regular every day clothes. It is actually a fond memory and I continue that tradition today.

Is anything wrong with wearing dress pants and a nice sweater or golf shirt if its the summer months. The only thing I cant do is wear dress shoes since I have braces on my feet and any pair ive bought is tough to get on. However, I do where suits and such on important occations such as Christmas, Easter, All saints, Good friday etc… I think im doing good on the dress code for my age group considering some young guys and girls wear short jeans, a sloppy shirt etc… Is what I wear okay?
