I forgot that St. Paul also said that the poor lowly women should not teach men. I apologize. Also, I will be in Rome next month and will dress so I may enter St. Peter’s. The Vatacan has their codes and those in my neighborhood have their own.

Now, Derek, et al, when you arrive in Somalia or other countries in East Africa, please make sure all Catholics understand that unless they wear a suit and tie or a dress with long sleeves and at least 5 inches below their knees, they are not allowed inside the church. Our Lord is much more interested in what his people wear, not of what is in their hearts. I hope you are able to publish your dress code rubric online so that the entire body of Christ has access to it.

What a very sad way to live. Must be very lonely up there…

If you can not wear it to a job interview, you should not wear it to Mass.

Interviewers for jobs look for those who can enhance profits and judge the outside. God looks at what we are, not what we portray ourselves or pretend to be. He has seen us and sees us in all our naked glory. Maybe we should do more praying than looking and seeing. I am guilty of being judgemental too.

:confused: Is it required of the Church that people must kneel if they do not have a physical ailment? Or like CITH is allowed, is it still okay not to kneel today?

No one kneels at my church to receive the Eucharist. Is this a US thing?

She may be referring to the EF–where the custom is to kneel and receive Holy Communion on the tongue.
 
Nope. It’s not a US thing. In the OF of the Mass, people receive the Eucharist standing up. However, a person kneeling shouldn’t be denied the Eucharist. Whenever we have our First Friday Mass (Devotion to the Sacred Heart) here at our office, one of our colleagues would receive the Eucharist kneeling down.

I would have no issues with anyone kneeling, its a personal choice. It may just be a practical problem in churches with large congregations at Sunday masses.

No seriously…I’m allergic to it…seriously allergic to it!

But there was another thread where a poster said we were disrespectful if we wore short sleeve blouses to Mass…so there will always be someone judging at Mass…you can’t win them all…🤷

Short sleeves-- “immodest”. This “modesty” craze is getting ridiculous.

Ya…I know. And I did clarify…you mean a short sleeve BLOUSE is immodest. Not a T-shirt with or without a logo…but a blouse. Yes they replied back…immodest. OY Vey!

It’s really nuts. Can’t turn a corner here at CA it seems --without running into a “modesty”–“womans wear” etc. kind of thread.
 
Yes, I completely agree about the 3 B’s … no breasts and bellies showing, not tight/shorts stuff like pants and skirts that accentuate butts…

I do also agree, if you cannot wear it to a job interview or even for most office environments with some form of business casual and/or professional dress code, save it for outside of Mass.

Well the Holy Father made such a mandate for all parishes in his Diocese (Rome) and they really do turn people away for dressing inappropriatly (yes, even tourists). The reasoning is that he wishes to enforce a certain level of visible reverence for the Mass and the faith.

Funny thing… I’ve heard what you write many times… “It’s not whats on the outside, it’s what in the inside so if I want to “sex up” or just dress down for church that’s fine”. The problem is, what’s on the inside is so clearly visible on what is on the outside. This is the simplest understanding of “faith and works”. How you feel about the faith, the Lord and the blessed sacrament will be made quite visible by how you decide to dress your self when you go to Mass.

For me, I know that when I was a bench warmer, and esp when I was Christian in name only I was fine wearing shorts, ripped on clothing, whatever to church. It didn’t really matter. When I reverted (rather powerfully), I came to realize where I was and what I was doing. When I realized the lack of reverence, of my own volition I dressed up. I now dress as you suggest every Sunday. Button down shirt, khaki pants, dress shoes… And that’s when I’m dressing down.

I am not being judgemental. It is all about respect. Just because God has seen us “in all our naked glory” that does not mean everyone else needs to. Too much skin is distracting. It be be distracting to those that are offended and to those that like what they see. Teenage boys and most men are weak and susceptible to impure thoughts in such situations. I know I am a man and we can catch ourselves looking when we did not realize that we were looking. Mass is the one place that you should not be exposed to the Near Occasion of Sin.

My Church is not called St. Hooters, but too many women dress like it is.

1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel…
