I’m sorry if it appears bizarre to you. It’s apparently the way Bermuda shorts are worn as business casual, in Bermuda.

The Bermuda solution is a bizarre mix of reasonable accommodation to nature and unreasonable adherence to arbitrary codes of dress.
Well… yeah… but you gotta love how the colorful shorts and long socks perfectly set off knobby knees! 😍

Oh, yes. In fact, seeing that picture made my day. And reading the history was very interesting.

I always thought that women had better choices to be cool, stylish and modest in the summer, than men. Correct me if I’m wrong!
As I’ve mentioned a couple of times already in this thread, I am a huge fan of the dress for men and women in Southeast Asia. I seriously wish it would catch on in my own ridiculously hot climate. Combine suitable dress with a culture of siestas on hot days.

As far as the original question - it’s always better to go than not go. Obviously one has to be wearing clothes to go, so wear the ones you’ve got.

I have attended many a Mass in cargo pants and a polo shirt and smelling like floor stripper.

Matthew 6:25. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Generally speaking, I do not thing grown adults should be wearing shorts to mass. I live in in the Florida panhandle and I see this a lot, I really think a grown man should be able to tolerate wearing a pair of slacks for an hour in Church.

Meh, I’m one to wear shorts to church from around Memorial Day to mid September. I guess I’ve never been offended by it, or knew that I should be.

Depends on the job…do you wear dress shoes, dress pants, dress shirt and tie to mass?

I know the engineering company I’m at allows shorts and sandals.

My dad used to do the suit thing for church, but he’s gotten away from that too.

Personally I think I nice pair of khaki shorts and a golf polo is perfectly acceptable, maybe that’s just me.

**[1387]To prepare for worthy reception of this sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required in their Church.220 Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest.

It is in keeping with the very meaning of the Eucharist that the faithful, if they have the required dispositions,221 receive communion when they participate in the Mass.222 As the Second Vatican Council says: "That more perfect form of participation in the Mass whereby the faithful, after the priest’s communion, receive the Lord’s Body from the same sacrifice, is warmly recommended."223

Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest.
This is still subjective. The Church has no official dress code, so it’s up to the judgement of the faithful to determine what - to them - is appropriate. And of course, ones pastor can give guidance.

Not a good idea but if that’s all you have; it’s better than missing mass. Reminds me I saw an RCIA lady being baptized and confirmed wearing shorts. I didn’t even mention it til now.

I don’t do it, but it is more important you are at Mass. I would say it is only a potential problem if hardly any of your fellow parishioners do so (as in you are violating local culture).

There is no formal dress code for the church as a whole. It is your discretion to choose what to wear to church.

Individual churches may have a stricter dress code, but this is infrequent.
