Is wearing shorts (that’s the only kind of pants I could find right now) acceptable at mass?

Acceptable or not, it is a very common practice where I live, for both men and women, especially during the warmer months. Myself, I won’t wear shorts to Mass, because no one should have to look at my spindly old-man legs 👴

If it’s the only thing you have and it’s a matter of attending or not attending Sunday mass, attend. I don’t remember your gender, but pair it with as nice of a short sleeve button up shirt or fancy blouse as you have.

Don’t let the devil convince you are unworthy in shorts today and go buy something that makes you feel confident about attending mass before next Sunday.

I don’t know if its okay where you live but it definitely is in tropical countries (except if you’re in a church ministry like an altar boy or others…)

Wearing shorts is fine in hot weather, provided they’re not ratty gym shorts. A pair of khaki shorts combined with a polo shirt or a short sleeve button down is fine imo.

Didn’t you say you were on vacation in your last post? If you forgot to pack nicer clothes, wear the nicest of what you have. No matter what you wear, there will be someone who finds it inacceptable. Jesus doesn’t care about your clothes. He just wants you there.

Yes, nice ones…nice shirt…agree with others that gym shorts are probably not very respectful…

I do not think that God would even bat an eylid whatever you wear.

In times gone by, people went to church in rags. Being there is more important than what you wear.

My parish is the only Catholic church in our small town which has six lakes.

This means, we get a lot of campers coming to Mass, wearing shorts and the many members of the parish attend Mass wearing shorts and T-shirts.

I can’t do it, and never wear such attire, but I’m older than the one’s who do

@theCardinalbird how would you dress before an important person? like your boss,or President, principal imp events ,just do the same, well that’s for humans, how would you conduct yourself before the heavenly court before the angels and saints ?

[Matthew 7:12 So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

Daily Mass, I wear shorts. I’ve also worn shorts to a Sunday Mass when it was hot. And for the Assumption, I plan on wearing shorts because it’d feel silly to put on a pair of pants and then put it in the laundry after wearing it for only 2 hours. (I’m including travel time and getting their early in that. Father’s homilies aren’t overly long.)

I always wear khakis or cargo shorts and a golf polo when I go to church in the summer.

I think in general it would be a good idea if people would follow St Peter’s Basilica visitors’ rules, which I believe is that one should cover the shoulders, cover the knees. Maybe people can’t do that 100% of the time, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable.
