Church Authority and the Amazon Controversy

The pope said it was good these pachamama statues were found and that he wants them to be in the church for the final mass.
If he does that he’ll throw fuel on fire of his opposition among Catholic Clergy and Laity. Will likely cause millions of Catholics opposing him worldwide since they’d be forced to choose Holy Scripture that forbids this. Would be devastating for his Papacy. I pray he doesn’t.

I was kind of backing you up with those pagan links 🙂 I apologise for my lack of communication skills.

Read Pliny and that era, There is a specific letter between him and the emperor . The previous governor before Pliny was killing christians left right and centre. Pliny wrote to the emperor and said he did not see the harm in these christians and they were a peaceful lot who gathered for prayer, fed the homeless and poor. The Emperor wrote back and suggested only killing those who refused to take part in the fertility festivals as this was seen as a thing of state. Everyone had to worship and offer to the god/s of fertility mother earth etc. So the test then was for christians that if they worshipped those gods and brought their offerings they would not be killed. If they did not, they were killed. A few other conditions for killing christians were around at the times. But this is one of the major ones.

Life was linked to success in growing crops and having water. No food, everyone starved and died.
I might be able to find the specific letter later, but at the moment I am studying for languages exams. Search some of the early letters between Rome and its governors regarding Christian killings.

Jews had a deal with Rome. Rome recognised their religion and did not require the Jews to worship gods other then the One God. Christians were not part of this deal, even if they were Christian Jews.
Christian scapegoats were fair game. Look at what Nero did and who he blamed after the fire of Rome. He blamed the Christians and it became very blood thirsty. The christians were persecuted quite badly at different times before Constantine . There were three specific periods of really horrific persecution of Christians

Cardinal Mueller, who was the head of the highest doctrinal office in the Church has chimed in on these idols.

The wooden statues have a name, and it isn’t Mary. It’s Pachamama. Pachamama isn’t ambiguous like so many things have been the past few years. Pachamama has been a pagan deity for a while. It is one of the few things now about the synod that we don’t have to wonder about.

So while there has been a lot of spin about representation of Mary all of a sudden, Pachamama isn’t Mary. Yes we do have statues and we have to explain it to the Protestants and that’s ok, but they are OUR representations, they are in OUR churches.

They cant expect to bring Pachamama in on a canoe at the center of the heart of Christianity, and then expect everyone to GET IT. There is a long history in the OT about what happened when people began building alters to somebody else. Is the deposit of faith on vacation?

So. While I wont guess what the Holy Father, the vicar of Christ has in mind with regard to Pachamama, [above my pay grade] nobody should be surprised at what Catholics think when people dance around her in the Vatican Gardens. Seriously?

Why is the Pope so insistent on having these idols in the Church during the final mass?

Apparently St Benedict also cut down trees in a grove where people in Cassino were offering sacrifices to demons and also destroyed temple beside grove where they were worshipping Apollo and rebuilt a temple dedicated to John the Baptist using the cut down trees . Marshall read St Gregory the great letters discussing this on recent episode

St. Athanasius and every other Saint in Heaven would have destroyed those idols to smithereens.

I don’t think so. The Eastern Catholic patriarchs would strenuously object to having our Canons changed, and it would drive the EO farther away from us imo.
The Pope can and has changed both Latin and Eastern Canon Law.

without idolatrous intentions
Am I supposed to take away that it’s okay to stick statues of Athena and Aphrodite in churches if you don’t intend to worship the demons they represent? The New Church is neat-o.
