These stories are becoming so commonplace that they make the movie, “The Exorcist”, look like a ho-hum news documentary. What we are witnessing is an epidemic of sex crimes commensurate with the lack of care-giving attention to the sexual sins of our times by our Christian ministers & Catholic priests.

To remedy this pandemic, which started with resistance to the clear teachings of Humanae Vitae and opened a veritable Pandora’s box of spiritual ills on society, our diocese & local parishes will have to adopt a no-nonsense teaching approach from the Sunday pulpit. They must address the issues of contraception, cohabitation and all forms of serious sin related to any form of sex outside of the strict, legitimate function of sex within marriage.

Yes, the hierarchy can employ better methods to detect & cage the beast of sex crimes within its ministries. That’s a band-aid. We need to clean up our environment from the lack of attention to Christ’s full teachings, especially with regard to the proper role of the sexual act — with no holds barred.

And most especially, they must decry abortion from the pulpit at election time, since this failure of oversight on child abuse of the unborn is most closely related to the lack of oversight on child abuse of the born.

I do believe you hit the nail squarely on the head.👍 Our priests and Bishops have been far too timid to approach such societal “norms” that are blatantly sinful. Maybe some of you have been blessed to hear clear teachings from the pulpit at Mass…I haven’t heard such things in …Oh, I don’t know, maybe 35, 40 years? Maybe longer…to me that is one of the problems. Seems to me they have been afraid they would alienate people, so it has all been warm fuzzies & milktoast from the pulpit. I have learned to “feed myself” so to speak, and go for the sacraments. Others have just left altogether. One of the reasons we have empty Churches, I do believe.

When I read this, the first thing that came to my mind was that he may have started out sincerely investigating, but that he wasn’t spiritually strong enough for the job, and got tempted with the evidence he was coming across and it was all over for him then. Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted.” There is a definite demonic presence that surrounds pornography. I can sense it when I walk into a room that has it. On several occassions I sensed exactly what it was and where it was and was able to remove it without looking at it. But it has demonic agents attached to it, and I can’t be around it because I don’t trust my own spiritual strength, I certainly would not be suprised if this man started out sincere, but succumbed to the demonic influence of the pornography he initially uncovered, and it spiraled out of control.

Just a hunch, pure conjecture, but I would bet that’s what happened.

i had the exact same thoughts. that he did begin to take a sincere approach to these investigations, but was not spiritually strong enough to withstand what he was up against.
however, he might have fooled everyone. when i first read this i wanted to shout at the top of my lungs ----- “MAKE IT STOP!!!” i am so weary of these types of stories. what will be next to shock us!!! Satan never rests and he seems to be winning over so many with his temptations.

comrade1789, the quote in your signature is very appropriate to this discussion. So many have left the church or not joined because of issues like these.

***For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. ***

You should never apologize for just anger. I think your response is natural since your anger flows from the fact that the perpetrator in this case clearly violated the natural law. Even Christ got angry (and violent), but it wasn’t sinful because of the fact that He was justified. The fact that Christ was angry so little should be a model for me to try to emulate, but I admit that it is difficult. In any event, Jesus’ thoughts on this particular matter are clear, ‘It would’ve been better for him had a millstone been tied around his neck and he be drowned in the sea than to ever have harmed one of those little ones!’

The Psalmist in 138 of the Douay-Rheims Bible says, “I have hated them with a perfect hatred…” to which the commentary wisely points out, “I have hated them…[not with a hatred of malice, but a zeal for the observance of God’s commandments, which he saw were despised by the wicked, who are to be considered enemies to God.”] For me this is an incredibly difficult spiritual state to achieve—Far too many of us are masters of “imperfect” hatred which is why given the chance I, personally, would gladly tie the knot to the millstone and be the first to give it a shove overboard. 😊 However, as Catholics/Christians we not only should be outraged, we “must” be. I know that God desires mercy (as is evident from the teachings of such great saints as St. Faustina), but we must not live our spirituality so high in the clouds that we allow ourselves to become neutered and emasculated here in the real world (especially when it comes to the children).

What a fool.

These people who collect such things, such filth, need to be strung up and whipped.

I’m sorry, I know I should be merciful. I really try to be. But I sometimes think these people should be completely disowned by society and thrown to the streets…
Good comment, natural sentiments, and I share your feelings (my post [above] was to you), but I didn’t understand the ‘include quote’ till just a couple seconds ago----I’m a very new newbie! 😦

A few points from a secular point of view:

It is good to see the Church employing people in this sort of role. Vetting to stop people like this getting into the roles is difficult.
We have a strict recruitment policy in the UK where a successful applicant to a post with access to children undergoes a CRB check. Unfortunately, unless criminal records show previous convictions, there is no other character predictor. Also, all diocesan safeguarding commissions over here do not exclusively comprise of members of the diocese. Each commission will have members from the local council child services agencies, the probation services and police. Those members outnumber representations from the diocese.
But **he should not be ostracised or treated with such hatred and contempt **that he can find society only with other similar offenders. If he reads this thread, I do not think his chances of addressing his evil ways will have been improved. I would be happy (after what should be a prison sentence) to give this man a job (with no chance of contact with children) and treat him as a fellow member of society, provided he was seeking professional treatment. Otherwise, we all know what he will do.
But there is much wisdom in the practice of forgiveness, as it can lead to less offending - provided people are realistic about the fact that people like this will always be at risk of re-offending
Many thanks for the reminder, Hokomai.

According to the UK Peadophile Watch, the solicitor for Mr Jarvis stated to the court that her client “had been a victim of abuse at the age of 11 by a family friend at a Catholic social club and, that at age 16 or 17, he had admitted to a priest that he had a homosexual encounter and was then abused by that priest.”. The Judge ordered reports into his background before he is sentenced on 19th August. The case transcript in this matter is still unpublished so I cannot verify the details as provided by UKPW.

…There is a definite demonic presence that surrounds pornography…
pornography is the devil’s icons. Just as illicit drugs are his eucharist.

I think that if I had a job like the accused had, I would HAVE to completely surround myself with holy and blessed iconography. And keep lots of holy water on hand. And make sure my prayer rope is always at hand. And…I think you all get the picture

I work in a rectory where I answer the phone and the door. In order to keep my job - which I had for several years before the diocese instituted this policy - I had to undergo a criminal background check and attend a training session on child sexual abuse.

This guy is hired specifically to work with this problem and no one checks him out!!! Who hired this pervert? Has anyone looked to see what he has on his computer?

I blame the baby beauty pagents. They are sick.
While I agree with you that the are sick, they didn’t put a gun to the head of this man and say look at these. His sin was his own choice. He doesn’t get to blame it on someone else.

Very true and I do agree with you, I was just saying there has been such a surge in interest in child porn and whatnot and I think that the baby beauty pagents don’t help (especially that Toddlers and Tiaras show) with triggering interests in child porn. What this guy did is still horrible and it was his choice and now Karma caught up with him, he’ll get exactly what he deserves.

Have you seen this: thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/parenting/3736664/Vogue-model-aged-10-outrage.html

Yes, that and his own proclivities to sin and the way children are protrayed as sex objects everywhere in Western society. Mere babies are dressed up like hookers to sell products. Children’s clothing, especially girl’s clothing, is all geared towards sexiness. As soon as a girl turns 18 she is expected to bare her body to the world. I blame the whole sexual revolution for this kind of thing–that and the “do whatever feels good” mentality that also started in the 60’s, plus a lot of so-called psychological training is skewed to the liberal left that glories in sexual perversion. I’m not at all surprised at this sort of thing. Disgusted and angry, yes, but considering how our society has slipped deeper and deeper into the muck and mire, not at all surprised.

This was in the French version of Vogue. They are promoting child porn & it should be decried worldwide as child abuse. But what Int’l Planned Parenthood does is also child abuse, promoting sexualy activity, promiscuity and pumping carcinogens into them as early as possible & calling it “women’s health”. Ugh.

Toddlers in Tiaras show should be BANNED. Organizing a boycott is a chore, but certainly could be accomplished. The emotional turmoil these kids are put through is terrible, plus the narcissism being indoctrinated by the parents is deplorable.

Perhaps the economic crisis is part of The Chastisement predicted.

As Padre Pio said, “Pray, hope and don’t worry.”

Unless you are very young, it’s remarkable that you don’t remember that Brooke Shields was photographed and filmed nude as a 10 yr-old child and as a12 yr-old child. What’s happened with French Vogue is nothing new. The shame is that it is STILL happening.

I do not believe we immediately owe an alternative job, compassion, forgivenes etc. to this person who clearly used the church in a manipulative and evil, abusive way. Given his role, he was clearly educated and trained and fully apprised and aware of the impropriety of his actions, yet used the Catholic church as a foil, deliberately, over an extended period of time, with often repeated actions. It does not appear he has made efforts toward reparations for for the hurt he caused to the society of the church, society at large or the individual children and families he harmed.

I also do not think we can reasonably blame children’s fashion and pageants for pedophilia. I agree both are bad for society and we should go back to dressing children to look like children. However, most of us would not be attracted to a child nor do sexual harm to a child merely because they are wearing makeup and a sparkly swimsuit, or because they are dressed like their teenage sisters. These things may appeal to abusers, but do not create abusers.

It’s entirely appropriate for us to be angered, repulsed and infuriated over evil and to respond to it harshly and strongly. When the offender repents and asks forgiveness and makes efforts toward amends, we are bound as Catholics to grant that forgiveness, and if he is seeking God, we are bound to help him find God in his life. However, I really don’t think we’re obligated to give the guy a job nor help him fix the damage to his own life- when we spare evildoers of their own earned consequences, we deprive them of the opportunity to learn from their actions.

If he is mentally ill, we as a society should try to cultivate some understanding and provide appropriate supervision of his behavior and treatment of his illness (though sexual predators seem incurable at present), and to have some compassion, but that does not include providing more opportunities to abuse nor making excuses.

We all have the desire and inclination to sin (though fortunately not to abuse kids), and our challenge as Catholics is to override those temptations by acting on our knowlege and faith in weak moments and making a different choice, which includes seeking help if we are not able to manage our behaviors independently. When one goes so far as to seek out such a job, there is a clear indication that a long-term pattern of deliberate abuse of the church and ongoing manipulation have been perpetrated by the individual.

I certainly agree that pictures of children dressed in inappropriately grown up clothing and make up does not make pedophiles, but it certainly feeds their complusions. If our society were truly serious about this issue, it wouldn’t encourage images of children in provocative poses, clothing, make up, etc. Our society has to take some of the blame for the ease with which these predators prey on our children.

Can you imagine the life that a police investigator who specializes in child pornography has to bear? O God have mercy, that has to be the most heart-wrenching job on earth.
