Sola Scriptura is not taught in the Bible.
Some adherents of Sola Scriptura try to validate it by saying that it is taught by the Fathers of the Church (i.e., patristic writings).
Even if the Fathers did, indeed, teach it, that fact could still not be used to validate Sola Scriptura, because this principle would be stemming from patristic writings rather than Scripture. Therefore, people making such a stance would have to redefine the source for the formulation of Christian teachings as “Sola Scriptura & Patristics” (rather than simply Sola Scripura).
And, of course, once they admitted that patristic writings are an authentic source for the formulation of Christian teaching, they would be opening a “whole can of worms” for themselves.
