I have watched YouTube videos from church militant or whatever it is they are calling themselves, don’t remember off the top of my head. Anyway, while I do at times finding myself agreeing with some of their points, I do not agree with their methods. To me they come across like some of the groups that have issues with just about everything since Vatican 2. Not saying that is exactly the case with this group but it seems similar. I am a traditionalist and love a lot of the old ways of the church, latin Mass and ect. However I am obedient to the Church in my faith and morals and of course not in any abuse cases.

I am thinking of the 300 Catholic laity I know best. A high percentage of them are married/remarried outside the Church, cohabitating, support, or at least accept, legal abortion and gay marriage. Many drink excessively, don’t go to Mass on Sunday, apparently teach their children nothing about the Faith, etc.
I would say you should look for a better parish with faithful Catholics that attend Mass every Sunday and are obedient to the Church. They are definitely out there, everywhere. The Catholics you describe are apparently that way because they lack the sacraments when missing Mass.

I’ll ignore. I can’t stand Mr. Voris and his approach to things.

But is it a good idea? To have an external entity investigate the bishops?

I’m not asking for criticisms about their methods or how they view V2. I’m asking if their investigating corrupt bishops is a good idea.

But is it a good idea? To have an external entity investigate the bishops?
But at the end of the day it’s all about laypeople anonymously emailing suspicions, grudges, hearsay, and theories to some “entity” that by his own definition is outside both legal and ecclesial channels. What could go wrong?

Well, Voris did say that documents and tangible proof are preferred.

Shhh, no mentioning homosexuality in the clergy. Everyone knows that’s a traditionalist right wing myth!

Sorry, you said opinion. So I gave you mine. You probably should’ve worded it differently 😉

As far as it being a good idea. Not sure. With this group probably not because I think they would turn it around against the Church. I just feel like they have an motive to see the Church fall. So it would just be giving them ammunition.

My thoughts would be if you witnessed or believe you have something improper when it comes to abuse of children or adults call the authorities. Because there is no reason for this group or any other to be a “middle man”.

Yes, but would you be willing to go against the diocese? Chances are the bishop won’t be on your side.

In the recent USCCB get together only one bishop stood up and asked when there would be accountability for McCarrick. He never got an answer. That is why organizations like Church Militant are needed.

You don’t really believe that CM’s motive is to bring down the Church do you?

I don’t know if I would agree that the Bishop wouldn’t be on your side. Thinking about it again I might report to the diocese first. They usually have a reporting system set up for this kind of thing, usually it is in your Church bulletin. If no results then I would go to the authorities directly. However I fell pretty confident in saying my Bishop wouldn’t go against someone making a claim against a member of the clergy or church worker.

The only way I might see it being an issue would be if it were a Bishop that is accused of doing the abuse.

Didn’t say I believe, I just get this feeling watching their YouTube videos. Seems like most of them are some kind of an attack on the Church. So yes it gives me that impression.

For as often as Church Militant is mentioned on CAF, which is the only place I’ve ever seen it mentioned, you’d think I’d look at it one of these times.

And yet, I don’t. It’s just not worth the effort to /point/click/ to see what’s there.

I agree. I actually really liked the Christmas column by Fr Kalchik (the priest who burned the rainbow flag) that they ran. I reposted it here but nobody responded.I guess it didn’t contain enough outrage or push anyone’s agenda. I’m to the point where so many of these Catholic sites are getting outraged over this and starting a petition or movement over that, I can’t keep track any more and I don’t pay attention any more unless they are running something unusually reasonable. For example, One Peter Five just ran a column sympathetic to ex-Father Jonathan Morris, and while I didn’t totally agree with it, I read it with interest because it was different than their usual.

With respect to watchdog organizations, bishop-accountability.com has been doing it a long time and is still the best, IMHO. They present their info without a lot of fanfare. Sometimes I feel like Voris is exploiting the sensational. I must have read the story about the priest who allegedly died in a very embarrassing position in Chicago like 3 times on Voris’ site now. And the priest died years ago. I can see bringing it up once, but over and over?

I get the impression that CM is doing battle against those who really do want to destroy the Church…the liberals who dissent from the teachings of Jesus. Our Lady said the final battle will be the attack on marriage and family.

I had that Ken doll, along with his groovy sport jacket.

He seemed to be modeled after actors who could make a guest appearance on Three’s Company as Chrissy’s boyfriend.
