I avoid CM and all similar sources due to their vitriol, but did now watch the video they put up on Abp. Gregory. It proves again their worthlessness as a company, hatred of the Church hierarchs, and so on. They also call him faithless in it, not mentioned in the article, as if they can judge souls. May God rebuke them, and deliver all souls who have been influenced to evil by them.

CM is no prize. However, I’ve seen several articles by this “Religion News Service” regarding Catholicism, and all of them seem to be looking for reasons to criticize Catholicism. There does not seem to be any positive coverage of the faith and they love to post about closures and problems. I’m suspicious of them as a source.

1st. Context context context.
2nd. Let us remember the bishops who threatened Voris over his sexuality. Forcing him to out himself. Voris has credibility on homosexual issues because of his treatment and outing as a homosexual. So one can see where he might be a tad angry.

They threatened him over that? Geez.

One of these days Voris or one of his pals will go too far and get himself sued. I suppose when that happens he will have fun playing the victim. But yeah, they’re all getting to be pretty vile.

I’m somewhere between middling and negative on what Archbishop Gregory said. I think it would have been better if he had not reacted so strongly against the Trump visit, which was apparently pre-planned.
But the name-calling and insinuations are inappropriate and wrong.

I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned his connections to McCarrick and his previous actions. Like the residence controversy.

I live in the Archdiocese of Washington, and although I wasn’t particularly pleased, but not surprised, that he was moved here after Cardinal Wuerl resigned, he had kept a pretty low profile since he started and didn’t do anything particularly controversial. He upset some people with the whole Cokie Roberts funeral thing, and that is what is formed the crux of a lot of criticism of his statement against Trump. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Archdiocese loses some significant donations over it; there are a lot of big donors in the Archdiocese that trend conservative, and they’ve spoken up and had some influence in the past (a Fr. James Martin visit was cancelled a couple of years ago up near Catholic University when some important donors complained, for example). He hasn’t shown any signs of toning it down or walking back his statement, so I hope this doesn’t start some sort of trend or hard turn to some of the more controversial stances and things he did in Atlanta. I wasn’t a fan of his statement by any means but if that’s the worst thing he does in his tenure here I’ll consider it a success.

As for Church Militant’s statements on him, well, it’s to be expect at this point. He has done some controversial things in the past which have made me wary of having him as an Archbishop, but as usual while I agree with CM’s overall sentiment, I disagree with their means. To be fair to CM though, if Archbishop Gregory is going to dish it out to conservatives, he’d better be able to take it too.

First of all, McCarrick is long gone. Second of all, whatever Archbishop Gregory did or didn’t do, it doesn’t justify calling him derogatory names. If one has reason to think that Archbishop Gregory has done something contrary to Church law, then the appropriate thing to do would be to contact the Pope or to contact someone in the hierarchy who could speak to the Pope, not to call him names.

With respect to Cokie Roberts, although I do not agree with her position on abortion and in general do not agree with “celebrities” having big funerals celebrated by the Archbishop, I watched her deliver the news for many years and she was a good journalist, head and shoulders above the likes of Voris and most of the so-called “journalists” running around DC today when it came to doing her job.

I further note that Archbishop Gregory is 72 years old, so if one doesn’t like him, there will likely be another archbishop soon coming over the hill. The least we can do is treat him with respect while he is Archbishop.
