Greetings, RomanRiteTeen,

While you have to get up pretty early to out-deplore me, re: the current state of the CoE, still, I have to ask…incest?

GKC,

have you ever read the pope JPII"s “theology of the body”, it is some pretty good stuff. henry the 8th would have benefited from it if he took it to heart and may have preserved catholic england. the schism of henry the 8th is a result of henry’s lust for anne boleyn. this lust drove him to divorce his wife catherine of nearly 13 years. this is the error which anglicanism is founded on.

No, but I have heard of it, and I would certainly benefit from it. JPII is a good man.

Henry’s concerns about his dynastic succession predate even his dalliance with Anne’s sister, let alone his flirtation, then his increasing obession with la jeune Boleyn. History is not as simple as the more popular cardboard cut-outs might suggest. But I agree with you on one thing. Henry made mistakes. Lots of them. Amongst them basing his causa on the Levitical prohibition, and thus claiming his original dispensation was ultra vires, due to an nondispensible impediment of affinity of the first degree collateral, instead of looking to the undispensed impediment of the justice of public honesty that Julius left hanging. Wouldn’t have worked, given Charles V, but it was more logical .

OTOH, Clement made mistakes too.

But I sincerely thank you for the recommendation on the Pope’s writing. I should find it. For an understanding of what was going on with Hank, I always suggest Scarisbrick’s HENRY VIII.
