If this was true at one time, i can definitely understand why hell is currently taught, I mean, look at all the 10 commandments, besides the spiritual implications, having people abide by those 10 laws and believe we will be judged for our actions on earth…all this tends to benefit the secular world too.
If people suddenly found out everyone will achieve heaven no matter what they do on earth, I highly doubt society would stay together for much longer, people would see no point in following church or state laws anymore and just do what they want.
For stability and order to be maintained, its necessary for people to believe they will be judged and held accountable for everything they do.
