The thing that bothers me about this whole thing is that her son joined the forces of his own free will, and she says the president killed him. He chose his career, just like a policeman does, just like a firefighter does. He knew the dangers. I’m so tired of these kids who join the armed forces so they get their college paid for, then howl when they are actually called to do their job.
News flash…if you don’t want to go to war, don’t join the ARMED services.
I’m so sorry she lost her son. I’m so sorry her son lost his life. War stinks…it’s always stunk, and always will stink. However, I’ll always be grateful for these brave young men and women who walk the walk while the rest of us sit around and talk the talk.
As an old army veteran of the Viet-Nam era, this all sounds so familiar. I, too appreciate her son’s sacrifice, and thank God we have kids like him all over this country. Yes, she has a right to protest, (which is what she did before her son was killed) but there comes a time to let the dead rest. She and others are using the whole thing for political gain, and there will probably be more like her. This is why we lost the Viet-Nam war. The anti-war public and the politicians. They helped keep the enemy fighting, because they knew that if the held out, they would win. Talk to any soldier, and they will tell you that they believe in what they are doing. Why doesn’t she protest to the Iraqi terriorists and tell them to lay down their arms and roadside bombs?

Shame on all of you!! Everyone of you who say this woman is dishonering her son. She speaks the truth about the immorality and illegalityof this war and all you can say is she dishoners her son. Atleast she has the courage to speak the truth about this war, which most of you can’t stand. You want to pretend we are in some holy crusade against evil when it is America that is commiting evil every single day. You simply ignore the facts that we were lied to about the reasons for this war. YOU CAN’T STAND THE TRUTH! It makes you uncomfortable. I bet the Sermon on The Mount makes you want to pull your hair out!

As long as the next president isn’t a Bush. God save us from that!

I knew sooner or later that the SELF RIGHTEOUS Radical right wingers here would spew up the bile from Fox News and Drudge…which is ALL FALSE REPORTING!

Seems you people did EXACTLY what that sickening O Reilly did…spoke from that disgusting Drudge WITHOUT doing their JOB of seeing if its true or not!

Use the internet for more than your self righteousness and go to the website of the Roccaville paper… and READ the original story in its FULL CONEXT! She comes across from the START as a mom who was TORN about this meeting with Bush…and that radical fascist Drudge took her words out of context!

Nowhere from Louffa O Reilly or Matt SLUDGE are the rest of what she said in that interview…things such as: Her and her husband were torn as to put the President on the spot over this war… how she felt that he was always changing the reasons for us being there… and how she got an form letter about her sons death and felt it wasnt sincere,… yes… thats right… this woman was CONFLICTED and NEVER did a complete turn around from being a Bush lover… Read the interview and STOP being brainwashed by Fox News and Drudge… from Catholics its DISGUSTING how many are being led and fooled by this jerk President, his war and radical right wingerism UGH!

Cindy Sheehan is a BRAVE SOUL and has started a movement for ALL parents who feel this war is UNJUST!

For you pro armchair warriors for Bush from the ages of 18 - 34…if you just love whats going on, then GO AND JOIN RIGHT NOW! Better yet…CONVINCE your KIDS to go RIGHT NOW! You support the war right? Then GO AND JOIN.

Her son, if he is as honorable as he seems to have been, even though he was supporting the war, would want her to have her rights honored.

Firmly agree with what you said.

Be careful. Speaking out against Bush and his war is grounds for being banned around here.

Everything you said is soooooooooooo true.

Please do not judge what “we” want to do as “conservatives.”

God Bless Cindy Sheehan… many people I know have gotten together and sent her money for sandwiches…for the ever growing crowd that is showing up and DENYING this so called President a chance at a peacful vacation as long as soldiers die daily and their blood drips from his hands and stains his soul…long live her cause!

The drama of burying a child that you have known within you is not a false drama, whether the child is short of birth or eighty years old. I think that if your mother really did lose you, you would look down on her from Heaven in all compassion. We cannot possibly imagine what she is going through.
There is a difference, in my opinion, between the true grief of losing a child and the unhealthy practice of not letting go with “drama” (for lack of a better word) that only really serves to bring attention to yourself. I realize that everybody grieves differently (and for the record I have “buried” one of my own children) but I think Mrs Sheehan’s actions are misguided. She is free to do as she pleases but at this point is it really about Specialist Sheehan’s death and his honorable service or is it about her?

If I were killed in action, of course I would have compassion for the grief of my mother and all of my loved ones. That doesn’t mean I would approve of their actions. I have actually had this converstation with my mother before going into combat reminding her that serving was/is my choice and if I am to fall, I would want her and the rest of my family to respect that choice by letting my death be about serving our country and not part of some anti-war drama. My wife I don’t have to worry about. She’d probably pick up a gun and go finish the job that I didn’t. (I love that woman. :))

Bottom line is this. I think most understand Mrs Sheehan’s grief even if they can’t totally relate. In watching her on TV she is trully in pain to the point that I would submit she needs some further help in dealing with grief vice being exploited by those against the war. I wonder if she knows that she has Christ? At least for me, that made the grief bearable.

First and foremost, “kids” aren’t fighting the war. Everyone over their is an adult that volunteered to serve and God Bless them for it. Even so, you what do I tell my kids about the war and military service? Truthfully I tell my girls that the military is a man’s world (contrary to how it is portrayed) and that they can better serve their country in other ways. For my boys, I tell them that service in the military is expected and part of giving back for living in the greatest country in the world (may God please continue to bless us). But in my opinion, that “giving back” doesn’t stop at our borders as is the belief for the isolationist neo-liberal camp. Much has been given to this country. And as the old saying goes, much then is expected of this country. As one of our President’s once said, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

Now as for myself. Since you asked, I had left the Navy in February 2001 in order to settle down with my family. Following 9/11 and with the support of my wife and mother, I resigned from my civilian employment and returned to the Navy lobbying hard to get into a unit where I could be involved in combat operations. I didn’t do this because I am seeking adventure or anything like that. I chose to do this because I believe we are in a war unlike any other that we have fought and one that truly does threaten the world. I also chose to do this to set an example for my children of what a man does. Call me old-fashioned I guess.

As an Aviator, I got my opportunity to serve both in Afghanistan and Iraq doing some “good” for the forces of good. This has included being stationed for extended periods deep “in country” where I am pleased to say I got to see how my Marine Corps and Army brethren live. God bless and protect them. Now I don’t say this because I want any special accolades or such. I did what I had to do and what I think is expected. I just caution you in throwing around your wild “al franken-like” accusations as you did. There are more like me out there than you think.

So what did you personally do for the anti-war effort?

We can’t judge how others grieve. Yet, in my opinion, it should be private and not a public statement.

I don’t know what her son believed or not. But, we are hearing loud and clear what his mother and others feel and felt.

Pray for this family to be at peace with one another.

Frankly, that’s a tough indictment from you. You’re goal on this forum, in your own words, is to terrorize conservatives–which you do well, with a great lack of charity. What part of that is from the Sermon on the Mount?

If that happens, it won’t be your beliefs, but your behavior.

Wow, could you be any more charitable?
Cindy Sheehan is a BRAVE SOUL and has started a movement for ALL parents who feel this war is UNJUST!
She may very well be 100% of that and more. She may not. I dunno.

Can’t cuz I’m too old or I’d have been in line right after 9/11. Got one son who’s thinking of joining the USMC. Nothing would make me prouder, but it’s his call. As you seem to forget in your uncharitable tirade, it’s an all volunteer army.

Setting your feelings/opinions for President Bush and conservatives aside for a moment, I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t make false statements or assertions against the good folks who moderate these forums. They do a great job and are the most fair bunch I’ve run across in how they do a job all of them I’m certain volunteer their time to do.

Mr. Bay,

A post I made to this thread about 30 minutes ago dissapeared. Was that a glitch or was it intentional?

I tried to PM you but your box is full.

Thank you.

Stu, you probably referenced a post with ad hominem attacks. I have deleted a number of them.

Making personal attacks and ad hominem attacks is not allowed on the forums. I don’t think you did it, but when you quote such a post I need to delete that reply as well.

EVERYONE be careful.

And, no, being against Bush is not grounds for banning, but spamming the forum with ad hominem attacks is. An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of the person making the claim, their circumstances, or their actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). These are considered personal attacks and are against the forum guidelines.

I will check my Private Message (PM) box. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send them by PM now that my box is cleared out. Forum rules state we cannot discuss moderation on the forums.

I have also merged a number of separate threads on Cindy Sheehan into this thread. If you started a thread on the subject and can’t find it, it is probably imbedded into this one.

Sorry if we have stepped on any toes, we are trying as best we can to moderate some very volatile topics.

God Bless

Bravo, Gilliam! And may your son’s guardian angel protect him in Iraq if we anti-war activists don’t succeed in bringing all U.S. troops home from there before your son’s deployment.

At 5 P.M. on Monday, August 15, I’m going to join other anti-war activists in Union Square in New York to manifest my support for Cindy Sheehan. The date of this demonstration is strikingly appropriate inasmuch as August 15 is the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, another grieving mother who lost a son to violence.

We should all recall one of the themes of the message of Our Lady of Fatima: war is God’s punishment for sin. Let’s reflect on the sins for which the United States and individual Americans are being punished by the fact that our troops are being killed, maimed, and psychologically impaired in Iraq. Let’s think especially of the sin of abortion, which Vatican II called an “unspeakable crime” (Gaudium et spes, section 51; *CCC * 2271).

At the same time, let’s think of the promise of Our Lady of Fatima:

"In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph."

By the way, even though our lukewarm bishops say we don’t have to go to Mass on the solemnity of the Assumption, please do so anyway. At Mass, please pray for Cindy Sheehan, Gilliam, their sons, President Bush, and our nation’s misguided government.

Keep and spread the Faith.

I know I would be upset if my wife/mother were to belittle something I died fighting for.

I pray for all the Gold Star families, as I hope you do. And, no, I don’t think this is a midguided government but I do pray for it.

I have seen a lot of governments come and go, and this one is one of the best so far (that isn’t saying much though). 😉
