Let’s face it, it just seems like clapping has become accepted at Mass. We clap for someone’s achievement or milestone such as a birthday. So and so donated money to the Church fund <clap, clap>

What a wonderful performance by the choir <clap, clap>

However, I disagree with the “accepted” practice of hand clapping and I pray for it to cease one day. And one day it will cease because we will return to the notion of the sacred. We will once again remember that during Mass a window opens to Heaven and we are truly in the presence of God.

We will forget self and immerse our souls into a concentration on our Lord and God Jesus Christ. Remember, the devil lost to Jesus and can never prevail against God. So little distractions such as hand clapping introduced into the liturgy cannot survive for long. 🙂

I like the Eastern tradition better. We just sing Mnohaya Lita (lit. “many years”). So if its birthdays, wedding anniversaries, etc.
