I don’t think they were playing piano, pipe oregon, guitar, drums etc at the foot of the cross either. Who cares. If it si fun anmd makes the mass more enjoybale and gets more people to go to it, then what is so bad about it? I hate masses that don’t have singing and instruments. For a while in my high school years I dind’t go to church as much and it wasn’t until I decided to get more involved with the mass and enjoy it by particiapting in the singing that I began to apreciate the mass in other ways as well. There are times for both but it is good to have both.

Was Van Morrison the music director?
:rotfl:No. Actually it was more like GLOR-I-A, clap, clap. GLOR-I-A, clap- clap.

Sad. Clapping during the Gloria will NEVER make the Mass more “enjoyable.”

It’s horrible that you “hate” any Mass.

They sang it about the same way(G-l-o-r-i-a, clap-clap) at my old parish, when I attended Mass for my Godson’s First Holy Communion. The DRE asked that we also take out our car keys and shake them OR we could clap our hands.:bigyikes: I was really dismayed. Things obviously got worse since I left:(
I think I might throw my keys at that DRE as soon as it made that request. That’s horrible.

our neighboring parish made the news again this week when the music director was fired (we could actually hear the cheers of long-suffering parishioners from the parish office, I think). Suffice it to say that their “guitar Mass” with 40-member band made the Super Bowl half time show seem subdued and tame. of course as usual anytime any confrontation is planned the local news trucks just happened to be standing by at 10 am Sunday morning. reportedly members of the congregation stood in silence and refused to sing in protest. point is, it is not that easy to make changes, and unless the bishop has protests, in writing, signed, with full documentation of abuses he cannot take action.

How about I take our my car… and meet him in the parking lot…

Why does it seem like many DREs are on medication? (or should be)

Ain’t gonna happen. My family has worshipped at this parish for 6 generations. I’ll out-last all those screw-ups!
Hang in there, Altar Man. I think all too often, people tell us that if we don’t like something that is obviously an abuse, to go find an more conservative parish. I think that is sweeping the problem under the rug. If this keeps up. there will be no conservative parishes to go to. I would feel very out of place at a Mass like that.

Hey puzzleannie. How did the blessing of the Hooters ever come out? I heard about it on EWTN. I believe it was in Waco.

distractions, distractions, distractions,
The devil has accomplished his part by having more distractions during Mass. One that I cant stand is the holding the Eucharist in the hand instead taking directly to the mouth. Where has your hand been? Oh I know you have been holding someones hand when we say the “our Father” another distraction. Im unable to stay focused when this happens. I like for all my thoughts to be of God and the Mass but instead I have some person nudging to hold my hand. Are we ever going back to the way it used to be? Too much music and too many distractions, anyone know what can be done to eliminate these problems?
stay focused and God bless

I’m not sure you are correct.
It is far from sweeping a problem under the rug, as long as your money leaves the innovative parish and goes to the conservative one.

Especially if they are closing parishes in your area.

Now I can understand where AltarMan would stand and fight and many others would too for their Home parish, but for some of us who are not in their area for very long, moving is a viable option.

Because I think that position bestows some level of “power” and “status” without asking a great deal in return in terms of performance or preperation in many parishes.

You’re right. It’s not a liturgical abuse. It’s just horrible manners – particularly because it was started at by far our most solemn and reverent Mass.

The people that attend this Mass are older – they don’t fight – they just slowly stop attending Mass and that is tragic! The sick part is that some brain-dead losers are trying to “boost” attendance by implementing this sorta garbage. EDIT

Get your “more Catholics than the Pope” sewage off this thread! Receiving in one’s hand is allowed by the Church. Deal with it.

Five years ago we routinely collected in excess of $15K/week. Now we are lucky to get $9K/week. All my alms go to my tiny Byzantine/Ruthenian parish now…

welcome new member… you are really close to the CA computer… so don’t pull the plug.

[1] Strongly support those priests who “do it right”

[2] Strongly question those who do not.

[3] You are obliged by Canon Law to raise questions when you see an abuse… as Nike says… just do it!!

[4] Pray that B16 is swift and clear in his instructions.

[5] Don’t ever give up or give in

Harsh words to a new poster, AltarMan. His post wasn’t deserving of such a blast.

Mother Theresa said she cried everytime she saw someone receive in the hand.

I don’t think that was because she thought others lifted the lepers out of the sewage like she did.

I used to complain about Protestants church shopping, unfortunately us catholics have been forced to do that do.

The Protestants have one “out” we don’t have (which is probably a good thing)…

The can fire and hire their pastors till they find the one who is as enlightened as the congregation.😉

ooops… I forgot… St Stans down in St Louis, Mo, hired their own pastor:banghead:
