My Man Godfrey (1936) with William Powell and Carole Lombard. I had it PVR’ed for a year or more and finally watched it. Funny.
Why does Netflix always take away the good films?I am watching The Bridge on the River Kwai. It’s leaving Netflix on Sept. 1.
Just to clarify, I’m sure you can still get the DVD, but it’s leaving streaming on Thursday. Probably the usual thing – the studio only licensed it for streaming for a limited time. Why does Netflix always take away the good films?when I first started netflix a number of years ago there were lots of great classics. Now not so much.
Oh I realize that.Just to clarify, I’m sure you can still get the DVD, but it’s leaving streaming on Thursday. Probably the usual thing – the studio only licensed it for streaming for a limited time.
Just read an article about him coming back a few years before his death. He was raised Catholic, too. Tho he didn’t stay - can’t blame him - his early life was pretty messed up.
I think this is the movie they were spoofing when they did “Airplane”.“The High And The Mighty”
This is like “Airplane!” but done in a serious, action-movie style from a bygone era. Ergo: Airport check-in clerks making openly chauvinistic comments, demeaning depiction of Asian women, passengers openly bringing firearms onto the plane, and so on. I just had to watch all of it to see for myself.
I am just not a Kathryn Hepburn fan, but I did think she was good in The Rainmaker with Burt Lancaster. Did Grace Kelly have Kathryn’s role in the remake? I have only seen pieces of these movies while switching channels.High Society. This is a movie I’ve wanted to see for years, because it has Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby singing a brilliant song together. It’s also a remake of one of my top three movies, The Philadelphia Story.
Now, I was predisposed to love this movie. I’ve read more Sinatra bios than is reasonable, own CDs of him than anyone else, but when I watched it, and watched the original with Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, I had to admit: the original is still better. Sinatra and Crosby’s “Did You Evah” song is BRILLIANTLY funny, but Stewart and Grant are brilliant funny throughout the entire original movie.
So, there it is.
I’ve also just watched two old westerns: The Unforgiven has Audrey Hepburn saying “ain’t”; and Vera Cruz, which was filmed entirely in Mexico.
Come Back Little Sheba is one of my favorites. Shirley Booth was so good in her performance. The part when he comes home drunk and belittles her breaks my heart.I am just not a Kathryn Hepburn fan, but I did think she was good in The Rainmaker with Burt Lancaster. I did finally see Come Back Little Sheba a few weeks ago. It was good. Perhaps I already posted that. I would like to see The Rose Tatoo in its entirety. I am a Burt Lancaster fan.
