Did Clement of Rome write anything specific that could be used to support Catholic theology? What was his contribution to the development of the Church’s understanding of the faith?
In addition to what has been said above about apostolic succession in Clement, First Epistle to the Corinthians, 42 & 44 I would add this:Did Clement of Rome write anything specific that could be used to support Catholic theology? What was his contribution to the development of the Church’s understanding of the faith?
Scriptural Support for Clement’s authority:Did Clement of Rome write anything specific that could be used to support Catholic theology? What was his contribution to the development of the Church’s understanding of the faith?
One very important teaching is apostolic authority, and papal authority. The Corinthians had ousted the priests in charge in Corinth. And they appealed to Clement to decide the issue. Here is the interesting thing, the Apostle John was still alive at this point, and he was actually closer to them (he was in Ephesus) than Pope Clement was in Rome. And yet they looked to the Pope for the authority to decide the matter.Did Clement of Rome write anything specific that could be used to support Catholic theology?
