artifacts from at least 14 churches closed in by the Diocese since the closings were first announced earlier this year are being auctioned on line, and are for sale only to other Catholic institutions. New parishes formed to replace closed parishes, or those parishes where former parishioners of closed parishes now belong, have first claim on these objects, including statues, altars and furnishings, organs, fonts etc.
it is so heartbreaking I can’t even comment. I took the time this summer to visit several of the close in churches that were slated for closing, and as someone who both raised my children in the Faith in Cleveland, and who made my living for many years in working with Cleveland’s history, this is really a blow. Glad to see these things are not just being trashed or for sale to general public.
