Hello everyone. I’m frequently reading these forums but this is the first time I’ve written. Anyways, has anyone read this article on CNN?

cnn.com/2007/US/07/13/martin/index.html

It’s a shame someone can be so ignorant. I remember CNN had a special on Christianity that this man was hosting. He had no one representing Catholics join in the conversation.

It seems to me he did not even read the letter. He did not mention any of the positive things said of the Protestant Christian communities; also, he just dismissed the explanation on why we Catholics don’t view Protestant communities as Churches. He even said that the Pope was trying to claim Jesus for himself alone!

Amazing. It’s a shame CNN didn’t allow responses to his comments. In my opinion, the man has a very shallow understanding of Catholics and the Gospel.

Sorry, let me take that back. I’ve really only known the Bible for the last 13 of my 38 years. That’s because those first 25 years were spent as a die-hard Catholic.
13 years and still he has not learned, and I thought I was a poor student.

Read the link.
He talks about a 16 page letter/document; what is that?
The only one I know about is only 5 pages (including footnotes) - the one issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith - “Responses to Some Questions Regarding Certain Aspects of the Doctrine on the Church, June 29, 2007”. Am I missing something? Is he referring to a different document?

Yes, I agree, but it represents a fairly common viewpoint of “ex-Catholic Bible Christians”.

I was going to applaud CNN’s link to “All about the Roman Catholic Church” until I followed it to a list of more stories considered media worthy.

😦

There was also this commentary attached:

The reactions to this document prove how needed a clarification on this doctrine was–of course, the reactions also show no one has actually read the clarifications in the document. :doh2:

Not surprise here… you want to know what is the most pathetic thing? This guys never read the document! check this quote from the editorial:

“But what ticked folks off was his assertion in the **16-page **document by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith…”

The document is only one page! here is a link for your reading pleasure…

Maybe he was using a rely big font to print it ???

I read that commentary this morning and was going to post it here, but didn’t have time. CNN posting this stuff doesn’t surprise me at all. Not the first time this has happened either.
