After weeks of intense Katrina coverage from the main press, LA TIMES guru and former CNN host Michael Kinsley divulges that CNN was coaching guests to artificially enhance emotions!

Kinsley writes:

“The TV news networks, which only a few months ago were piously suppressing emotional fireworks by their pundits, are now piously encouraging their news anchors to break out of the emotional straitjackets and express outrage. A Los Angeles Times colleague of mine, appearing on CNN last week to talk about Katrina, was told by a producer to ‘get angry.’”

Well…well…just as we would expect. From “insidecable.blogsome.com”:
A quick search of which Los Angeles Times employees have recently appeared on CNN revealed a likely suspect: Jon Healy, the paper’s editorial writer, who showed up on “Paula Zahn Now” on Sept. 2. We called Healy, and he confirmed that he was the mystery colleague. He also fleshed out the story a bit.
Here’s what happened, according to Healy: He had earlier penned an unsigned editorial for the Times critical of the response to Katrina. A producer from “Paula Zahn Now” – Healy doesn’t remember her name – called and asked if the author would appear on the show; Healy agreed. Roughly an hour before Healy’s appearance, he got another call from the producer. He wasn’t sure of her exact words, but he said the gist was “I know this is going to sound tacky, but when you’re on the show, could you be angry?”
Healy says he replied that he was willing to reflect the editorial’s content – he characterized it as “a combination of mystification and anger” – but that he wouldn’t express more anger than he otherwise would have. “I’m a news guy,” says Healy. “I’m not an actor. If they ask me a question, I’ll answer it.”
Guess blaming Bush for Katrina 24/7 wasn’t enough. CNN wanted everyone to be as angry as Soledad O’Brien.

More evidence for my contention that nothing obscures reality like pointing a camera at it.

Ani Ibi…She’s been a little over the top, eh?

This is almost becoming laughable. What stops it from that is those outside the USA believe what Soledad,William Schneider, Wolf Blitzer, Aaron Brown and others say.

You see the Bill Clinton’s buddy and former President of CNN-USA, Hank Kaplan is about to be canned by MSNBC? The station’s lastest line up of new shows resulted in a one billion dollar drop in advertising sales.

Keep up the Bush and Republican bashing MSNBC, you’ll get to the point where you have to pay advertisers to put their ads on the station.

Almost half of Americans attend church one or more times a week. Around 80% are Christians. How many of the top execs reflect that demographic? None that I can think of. They are so upper west side Michael Moore/Jerry Seinfeld Manhattan, they haven’t a clue what most living on main street America think or how they live. Don’t want the deck stacked either way but it would be nice to have just one or two top execs be of the mindset of Antonin Scalia or James Dobson. Enough of fake diversity, pseudo-Catholics (Chris Matthews) , pseudo-Christians and pseudo-Republians (David Gergen) acting as fronts. Corporate needs to get some people in at the helm who are representative of the majority of Americans.

Affirmative Action for Middle America? It seems to me that people should get to the top in American Business because of their talents and what they can do for their companies, not because of their origins.

How successful was the Black Tokenism of a few decades ago? Not very.

Don’t mistate what I wrote.

I’ll watch again when news is less incestous. Same with Hollywood. I have no desire to support those who oppose everything in which I believe.

It is a myth the media and entertainment is a meritocracy. If that were true, one would see different views. There is nepotism and a very strong inclination to hire those of similiar beliefs and background in Hollywood, in print media and in broadcast journalism. I worked in the field as did my entire family. We saw it everyday. There is some diversity at the lower levels (much less however than a few decades ago) but corporate execs? Peas in a pod. Money is not everything to them. If it were they would not have let Hank Kaplan turn CNN into a joke as the “Clinton News Network”, allow FOX to trounce CNN in ratings and then shuffle Kaplan off to MSNBC to tank that station.

While the situation is not identical, John Cones analysis of Hollywood does pretty much reflect what we see in the print and broadcast news:

I didn’t. You said, “Corporate needs to get some people in at the helm who are representative of the majority of Americans.” If you meant that those representatives of the majority of Americans will have worked their way up to that level of corporate achievement, then we’re in agreement. If you meant that they should be given their jobs to reflect their origins, then I can’t agree.

Who are the majority of Americans?
