This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: 3rd Sunday of Easter,
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/Apr08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check
This Week’s Gospel: Luke 24:13 - 35
(6th-April-2008) 3rd Sunday of Easter, Year A

** They recognised him at the breaking of bread.**
This reading corresponds well with the caput given. What is here clear is that the next of Victor’s capita here unnaturally breaks the sequence of the text, so, not having seen the Victor Codex manuscript, and following Sievers’ transcription, I am forced to conclude that the capita were not inserted into the text, but were marginal comments, and their positioning was on occasions a little imprecise. It would make better sense if the caput started two lines later in the text, at 230: 1, on page 333. That is where I end the text here.
The reading is almost entirely from Luke, with only a fraction of a verse from Matthew replacing the first half of the opening verse of this text
** CLXXVI. Ubi Ihesus duobus euntibus in castellum apparuit. **
(Where Jesus appeared to two going to a town.)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: 4th Sunday of Easter,
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/Apr08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check
This Week’s Gospel: John 10: 1 - 10
(13th-April-2008) 4th Sunday of Easter, Year A

** I am the gateway of the sheepfold.**
This reading corresponds well with part of the caput given: paragraphs 6 – 10 of 16.
The reading is entirely from John.
I have taken the liberty of translating ‘ostium’ as ‘doorway’, as that was the original meaning of the word.
‘Gate’ should be understood as the way, not the artefact of wood which blocks it.
Language has de facto drifted, so I then substitute ‘doorway’ for ‘door’ or ‘gateway’ for ‘gate’.

** CXXXIII. Ubi Ihesus agnitus est eidem cæco et contendit multa cum Iudæis. **
(Where Jesus is recognised by the blind man who was thrown out, and asserts much with the Judeans.)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: 5th Sunday of Easter,
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/Apr08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check
This Week’s Gospel: John 14: 1 - 12
(20th-April-2008) 5th Sunday of Easter, Year A

** I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.**
This reading corresponds well with opening of the caput given: it comprises the paragraphs in the Sangallen notation, 162: 1 – 3 and 163: 1 – 4. Note this is equivalent to breaking verse 12, and discarding the latter part of that verse, but it should be noted that the latter part of verse 12 runs into 13 without a break of sentence
The reading is entirely from John.
** CLVII. Ubi Ihesus hortatur discipulos suos, ut non pavefiat cor vestrum. **
(Where Jesus encourages His disciples, that they not let their hearts be troubled.)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: 6th Sunday of Easter,
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/Apr08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check
This Week’s Gospel: John 14: 15 - 21
(27th-April-2008) 6th Sunday of Easter, Year A

** I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate.**
This reading continues from last week’s reading, though it omits verse thirteen. I commented last week that the twelfth verse runs into the thirteenth without a sentence break, so I ended the reading after the first part of verse twelve, which ends in a sentence break, which also corresponds with the paragraph break in the Sangallen notation. So I start the new reading at that boundary, thus it comprises the paragraphs in the Sangallen notation, 164: 1 – 6. The reading is entirely from John.
** CLVII. Ubi Ihesus hortatur discipulos suos, ut non pavefiat cor vestrum. **
(Where Jesus encourages His disciples, that they not let their hearts be troubled.)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: The Ascension of the Lord,
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/May08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check
This Week’s Gospel: Matt 28: 16 - 20
(4th-May-2008) The Ascension of the Lord, Year A

** All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.**
This reading comprises the first five paragraphs in caput given, which is the final caput of the Gospel. In the Sangallen notation, it is, 241: 1 – 2, and 242: 1 - 3. The reading is entirely from Matthew, augmented from Mark.

** CLXXXI. Ubi discipuli euntes in Galilæam viderunt et adoraverunt dominum et adsumptus est in cælis coram eis. **
(Where the disciples going to Galilee see and worship the Lord, and He is assumed into Heaven in their presence.)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: Pentecost
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/May08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check.
This Week’s Gospel: John 20: 19 - 23
(11th-May-2008) Pentecost, Year A

** As the Father sent me, so am I sending you: receive the Holy Spirit.**
This reading comprises essentially, the caput given. However, it seems that from the text itself, the caput boundary indicated by the position of the heading might be incorrect. Thus the text break, as indicated by the Sangallen notation, which makes better sense is used. So in the Sangallen notation, it is, 230: 1 – 6, 231: 1 – 3, and 232: 1 – 6. The reading is marked out from John, but heavily infilled using Luke.

Using data publicly available from:

and The Sunday Missal to cross-check.
This Week’s Gospel: John 3: 16 - 18
(18th-May-2008) The Holy trinity, Year A

** God sent his Son so that through him the world might be saved.**
This reading is very short, comprising only three paragraphs of the caput given. The three paragraphs exactly correspond with the three verses. So in the Sangallen notation, it is, 119: 9 – 11. The reading is entirely from John.
** CXVIIII. De Nicodemo qui venit ad Ihesum noctæ… **
(Of Nicodemus who comes to Jesus in the night…)

This week’s Gospel as in the Codex Fuldensis Gospel: The Body and Blood of the Lord
Using data publicly available from:
liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2008/May08.html
and The Sunday Missal to cross-check.
This Week’s Gospel: John 6: 51 - 58
(25th-May-2008) The Body and Blood of the Lord, Year A

** My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.**
This reading is very short, comprising only parts of two paragraphs of the thirteen of the caput given. Note, in the Sangallen notation, due to a scribal error, eleven is repeated, here with 11*.
The two paragraphs overlap slightly the eight verses specified, by four at the beginning, which are included for context, and by one at the end, which likewise rounds off the account. So in the Sangallen notation, it is, 82: 10 – 11. The reading is entirely from John.
** LXXXII. Ubi transfretantes venerunt in terram Gennesar et turbæ secute sunt trans mare; de manna in deserto. De murmuratione Iudæorum eo quod dicit Ihesus: ego sum panis vivus. **
(Where crossing the water they come to Genesar and the crowds followed him across the sea; of manna in the desert. Of the grumbling of the Judeans on account that Jesus said: I am the bread of life.)

This Week’s Gospel: Matt 7: 21 - 27
(1st-Jun-2008) The 9th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A

** The house built on rock and the house built on sand.**
This reading corresponds exactly with the two capita given below. The reading is entirely from Matthew.

** XLII. Non hi intrabunt in regno cælorum qui tantum dicunt: domine domine! **
(They shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven who only say: Lord, Lord!)

** XLIII. Conparatio in his omnibus de sapiente et insipiente ædificatoribus. **

This reading from the middle part of the caput given below. The reading is entirely taken from Matthew. Though the reading given ends at verse 19. in the Codex Fuldensis notation, this breaks a paragraph, so for completeness, verse 20 is included.

** XC. Ubi Ihesus interrogat apostolos: quem me dicunt homines esse? et quæ secuntur, et dicit Petro: scandalum mihi es. **

** A sower went out to sow.**
This reading, taken mainly from Matthew, is one of the few places where the Matthean sequence is disturbed. There may be some doubt as to whether the conventional order has been modified by the harmonizer, or whether he is a witness to an older order. Interweaving is light, with a small amount from Luke, and even less from Mark.
The result of the re-ordering is to insert the capita LXXI, to LXXIII, and part of LXXIIII into the sequence starting with LXX, and ending with LXXV. It might be thought that this was to improve the continuity of Luke, but actually, the Lukan sequence remains as if passed through a shredder.

** LXX. Ubi Ihesus in montem orat et iuxta mare turbis et discipulis suis plurima in parabolis locutus est. **

This reading, taken mainly from Matthew, is one of the few places where the Matthean sequence is disturbed. There may be some doubt as to whether the conventional order has been modified by the harmonizer, or whether he is a witness to an older order. Most of this week’s reading has, due to the re-ordering,already been given last week. What difference there is comprises omitting the first two capita from last week’s reading, and adding the subsequent caput after the last.

** LXXII. De eo qui seminavit bonum semen in agro suo et de zizania. **

** He sells everything he owns and buys the field.**
This reading, taken entirely from Matthew, comprises the caput given. However, the chapter boundary as shown in the Codex Fuldensis, here differ from those in the Codex Sangallensis, and with context. I recommend the Sangallen boundary, which also coincides with the specified ending of this weeks reading.
The failure of Victor’s capita to coincide with context indicates that they were originally marginal notes, and not exactly placed.

** LXXVII. De thesauro abscondito in agro et negotiationem margaritarum, sagena missa in mare et de patre familias qui profert de thesauro suo nova et vetera. **
