Stating that not everything that is legal is also moral, the president of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia criticized a 6-2 decision by the nation’s highest court mandating the legalization of adoption by same-sex couples.
Archbishop Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga of Tunja said that “the Church values and respects the dignity of persons with homosexual orientation and has nothing against the recognition and exercise of their legitimate rights and duties.”
The court decision, however, has “injured minors,” the prelate continued. No one has a right to adopt, and the best place for the “psychological, emotional, ethical, and moral” well-being of children is in a family formed by a man and a woman.
