Colonization for resources is Evil

I don’t think people in Middle East are very happy with you there, as the only thing you brought there is destruction and death. Someone corrected me above for saying you’re colonialists, but then you appear talking about your “bases and forces”. Just stop invading our countries militarily and culturally. The world doesn’t belong to the US you know?
I suggest you reflect on that HUGE chip on your shoulder, it will help with your objectivity in discussing issues.

When you join one side of a conflict, DUH the other side will despise you.

Yes, western culture (hardly just US) is pretty invasive. I can empathize that some ME countries are against it. But that’s not really about colonization, that’s about how cultures meld and evolve/devolve.

Yes, we try to exert significant influence over countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, but they are hardly treated like colonies. For starters our money is flowing into these countries instead of taking value out. There is a strong history of the US leaving after local politics and violence stabilizes.

Face the facts, we wouldn’t be in Syria still if Syrians etal weren’t killing each other causing a refugee crisis with it’s own set of problems for the west. Nonviolent countries are pretty much left alone in regards to military intervention.

What a poetic and eloquent way to relate history

Africa is in a bad way if not hell on earth. What good has colonization done for Africa? Its not like they are benefiting now from the resources that were taken from their land; we are. The people who took it are not helping Africa, they were just exploiting Africa and leaving them with the crumbs. Yet, it is evident now that Africa does in fact need those resources to survive in today’s world and the devil is not returning them anytime soon and he always has a witty retort as to why it isn’t his fault…

Its a ridiculous thing to say that they were not using it so it doesn’t matter because compared to where they were before they are still better off. looooooooool

Almost all of the continent has at least a semi-functional government. That wasn’t the case before colonialism.

I do agree they’ve gone downhill since it ended.

I call that blaming the victim.

If we were really there to help in their development and not simply exploit them, they would not be in the situation that they are in because they would be genuinely benefiting from the resources that we took. Africa was an easy steal, plain and simple.

I think that’s just common-sense. But i guess we can comfort our selves with the idea that they have semi-functioning governments. Loool A job well done.

And 21st century North American culture has the far worse, utterly barbaric, utterly vile practice of murdering millions after millions of innocent babies. We are drenched in far more innocent blood than any civilization that came before us.

The de colonization efforts were undermined by communists. Which led to civil war and genocide. That’s not the colonizers fault.

Not coincidentally, the groups supporting abortion and opposing “colonialism” overlap quite a bit.

The US isn’t invading anyone.

Otherwise, tell your fellow countrymen to stop bombing and terrorizing our citizens.

What was pre-colonial Africa the victim of that caused it to be such an uncivilized place?

If a doctor abandons his patient while the latter still needs treatment, the harm that befalls the patient isn’t due to the treatment given prior to abandonment, it’s due to the abandonment.

Though as I mentioned, they’re still better off than before we got involved.

Is anyone under the impression that colonization for recources, is evil.
I agree because many wars have been fought for natural resources. How many innocent children and others died in the Iraq war. And how many hundreds of billions of dollars were spent on it?
Many scholars have said that the Iraq war was all about oil.
“Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan agreed, writing in his memoir, “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil.” Then-Sen. and now Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the same in 2007: “People say we’re not fighting for oil. Of course we are.”” My personal opinion is that it is wrong to invade a country because of their oil and as a result, thousands of children and women are killed in their own country.

And did you ever wonder about the motivation behind US spending hundreds of billions of dollars to invade Afghanistan and wage war there? Well, it just so happens that the country is rich with oil, gold, iron ore, copper, lithium and other minerals …

There were big demonstrations against the US and NATO in Moldova when US and NATO tanks were parading there.

Sure they were “uncivilised”, but that doesn’t mean they were worse off. Vast swathes of the African population undoubtedly live in more misery now than they would have before colonisation. What has civilization brought Africa that is so good? What did the process of civilising Africa bring them? Was a century of exploitation, social engineering and violence worth it? Civilization apparently hasn’t lived up to the hype surrounding it.

Even then the notion of an uncivilised and tribal Africa is overstated considering the existence of Muslim rule in places such as Northern Nigeria.

Also if you’re going to try and defend imperialism by resurrecting 19th and early 20th century arguments then at least own the racist implications of the arguments. It was the discourse surrounding African primitivism and the need for European trusteeship of the African that all the horrors of 19th and 20th century racial oppression emerged.

I obviously don’t agree. You’ll always describe yourselves as “peacemakers” but that’s not even close to what it looks like from the outside. Have some perspective. I wanted to end the discussion though, because you won’t convince me of your points of view and neither will I convince you of mine. But we’ve already expressed what we think, and that’s all. Have a nice day. God bless you

It would be O.K., I believe, to harvest the resources of another country if it were done fairly. For instance, if the host country’s laws and/or traditions were observed, the host’s laws/traditions were legitimate, and the foreigners paid just compensation to the rightful owners.

If by racism you mean cultural and technological superiority, yes.

However, that’s all textbook answer.

In most of these countries, and even in our own, title to some property isn’t black and white.
