I just finished reading the first TPB of Wolverine: Origins. (not the Origin story, but Origins). Here’s what bothered me, other than a weak plot…the artwork was just awful. You ever run into that? You ever have a comic “ruined” because it was unsightly? Ugh…the same guy did parts 2-3 at least, too… :frighten:

i really, really liked Maus I and II, as well as Persepolis.

i liked the book version of Persepolis a lot more than the movie, honestly.

the graphic novel “The Rabbi’s Cat” was also excellent. big, colorful, and set in the Jewish (and Muslim) community of 1930’s Algeria. 😃

I have been involved with Catholic Comics in the last two decades. I wrote to a number of Catholic publishers suggesting they do the lives of the saints. The daughters of St. Paul sent me a nice letter saying it was a great idea but they could not do it. The next year they came out with the lives of the saints in comic book form.

Then I put up a bunch of web pages on comics.

This one was usually number one on Google for the words Catholic Comics for many years.

This one was at least some of the time number one for Bible comics on Google, it reviews the various Protestant comic book Bibles from a Catholic view point.

This one reviews various Christian graphic novels

I have been very interested in getting public librarians to include Catholic and Christian comics in public libraries. I have had a lot of success with this project, but I really can not do it much beyond my own area. Perhaps some of you might be interested.

As I mentioned above I had the number one web page on Google for the words Catholic comics. This may be the reason that Arcadius Press contacted me asking for advice when they put out their series on the lives of the Saints.

By the way there is a large collection of old Catholic comics from the late 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s on line.

Yeah, Hellblazer’s something I have to read the first few pages of first before I decide if I’m going to read the issue. Sandman’s always great though.

I have been reading in my spare time “Blade of the Immortal” but I am not really reading much @ the moment cause i have been working on my own graphic novel for the pass few months. I have created 3 properties with true Christian (Catholic) over tones to the stories, one is a sci-fi book, and 2 are superhero books, i will be posting stuff up on these boards in about 2 months.

😃

That’s actually the reason why I just post up my least original ideas on the internet. I’ve got a question about that last part though. Wouldn’t it be better if I just I had someone close to me to do all the promoting and business-stuff? 🤷 As a writer myself with a treasure-chest of ideas for novels locked up in his head, I really would like to put more focus on the artistic art of storytelling.

Well don’t put too much hope on me. :o It’s really not easy trying to present a Christian message without coming off as one (granted that it seems to turn off most people these days ). Most often I end up promoting a bad-boy conservative world view than a Catholic one. Then again, maybe that’s just my own personal issues with what your average Catholic saint would define as “pacifism”. :\

cool… well my stuff is © 😃
and hopefully the public will like my characters, i dont pull any punches, i am targeting the billions of catholic youth around the world, the first books in both english & spanish cause i know latin america and spain are very Catholic and love comics and anime.
they will all be published with my company even tho i would like to approach top cow with my book; cause they have books like Magdalena, witchblade, and Darkness which is right up my alley but i would like to keep most of the earnings.
