Two quick questions:
(1) have any of you read the Frank Miller “Born Again” *Daredevil *saga from the '80s? If so, what did you think? That had some pretty overt Catholic themes if I remember right, with one cover even featuring a nun.
Yes! Someone here recommended it to me. I enjoyed the first 80% of it quite a bit, thought it was most intriguing. The nun part was all to brief for me, although quite well done. Do you know what subsequent issues or trade paperbacks I can find more on that character? The ending turned into total military mayhem to me and seemed like a totally different story.
And (2) has anyone heard of a comic book series called Treasure Chest? It looks like a weekly comic made during the 1950s through early ‘70s especially for Catholic kids with stories (both text and traditional comic style) with religious themes, but also humor and adventure yarns. Joltin’ Joe Sinnott did some pencils and inks in an issue I have that appears to have been done at the same time he was inking Kirby on the Fantastic Four.
I’ve not heard of this but if you have a link, do post it! Marvel seems to have done some Catholic stuff in the past, including a comic on Pope John Paul II’s life and Mother Theresa’s!

I hate to admit this but I am a huge sucker for the Moe-style (the style with the cute big-eyed girls with round faces + cool bishounen :o ). Are there any serious/deep titles that uses such a style? :confused:
😛 So you like the Powerpuff Girls? I don’t think the size of their eyes can be topped. I am sorry though I don’t know enough about the manga/anime stuff to help out. I’m curious, what do the manga/anime fans like about that style over the traditional muscles & color you get from American comics?

Well I can’t really say if I speak for all otaku but personally I think the moe-style is more than just the eyes. I guess I should have just posted an example, I just hope the admin won’t mind. :o

As you can see here, the overall cuteness (or ‘kawaiiness’ in otaku slang 😛 ) is the major factor plus the coloring isn’t so shabby. Another thing is that the body is somewhat angelic in terms of figure. 😊

It doesn’t have to be always that way though as in this pic

Pictures like these sort of contain an amount of gracefulness and beauty characterized by their lighting and sleek clothes design. Also, you’d be surprised how muscle detail can be found in manga but I must caution you. Since these titles tend to focus a bit more on the human anatomy, there’s a lot of leaning towards the nude. ^^’’

P.S.

As to the skinny and feminine looking males one often finds in anime, I actually know a lot of girls who prefer such men over the traditional muscle hero nowadays. XD

And I would not be one of them. 😉

But does Sailor Moon classify as serious? I can only think about the manga I’ve seen—Hikaru no Go is serious—but as a shounen adventure, the character design is a little more inclusive for all types. The only reason I do not mention Rayearth II is that the anime was much better than the manga.

I’m sure I am forgetting some.

Hmm… perhaps something along the storylines of Tokyo Godfathers or other deep anime movies. I don’t find a lot of movies like that using the Moe-style sadly. 😦

P.S.

Your lack of attraction is because you are immune to the foul disease known as FanGirlyitus. Unlike my unfortunate little sister here.

LW’s little sister. Kyaaahhh!!! Kaname-sama!!! X3

LW: -_-;;

I asked your question at a comic forum I’m on, and someone replied to check out the “works of CLAMP”. Hope that helps!!
Yeah I love CLAMP’s style. Perhaps I should really go back to reading Tsubasa…
That sounds like it needs serious medical attention!
LW: Tell me about it.

LW’s sister: looms from behind him Nani? You same something onii-chan? )8<

LW: TwT

Tsubasa is one of two series I’m looking to get right about now.

I agree with you there 👍 that’s one characteristic that always bothered me with the American comics…they were all soo buff @-@…same thing for some of the Japanese comics like DBZ…i just don’t get it-_- The only buff-ish characters i like are from Bleach…😃

I favorite graphic novels are: Bleach, Naruto, Vampire Knights XD, FMA and Fruit Basket etc…

I agree, I’m not fond of overly muscular characters either. XD
However, unlike you, I’m more into either fantasy (Mahou Sensei Negima), demon-hunting (D.Gray-man), or sports-themed (Air Gear).

Shoujo doesn’t quite cut it with me sorry, I’ve got enough of it from my fan girl of a sister here. :o

LW’s little sis: Ne ne onii-chan, if Kaname-sama turned me into a vampire what would you do? :3

LW: I’d wake up. If I can’t, I’d see if I had an Innocence or at least a pair of ATs (complete with Regalia) to keep you away from me. -_-;;

With the muscle characters, I think they are fine with or without, depends on the story. I prefer a good story! It seems so hard to find one…
