It is true that Jesus fulfilled the covenant of the Old testament, and that many of the laws from then do not apply now or do not need to be punished in the same way.

However it is important to know why God said homosexuals should be stoned in the first place. He actually gives the reason for this a few verses after the command.

“24 Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.”

"30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”
-Leviticus 18

The reason why the law has said to stone gays was because of certain sexual practices carried out in pagan rituals and social customs. This is why God called Israel to turn away from such things.

It is also important to note that stoning took place only after a trial where the person was decided to be guilty or not guilty after the testimony of two or more witnesses.
If guilty they would then decide whether the death sentence would apply. If it did then the person might be stoned however, another person without sin could take their place such as an animal. This was meant to symbolize Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins.
Therefore stoning was rarely carried out. When it was carried out however it was not just an angry mob throwing stones like in the movies or in modern day. The death penalty was made to be swift and as painless as possible.

I usually don’t argue with atheists.
If they bring up religious discussion, I will act depends on their characters.
What I do is if people ask me if I am religious, I say I am Catholic. And I try to make my life and actions reflecting my faith.
That is my personal experience.

I would suggest not even arguing with atheists. You aren’t going to change their minds, nor them yours, with words. Show them your way by Christian acts. Dialogue is great, but not when it dissolves to the point of personally judging the other’s eternal fate. That goes for both sides.

I’d say your example is culture-bound. In other parts of the world, atheists do not subscribe to another monotheistic religion’s views.

Maybe pick your battles. Some atheists, like some theists, are unwilling to entertain rational discussion.

Two of my closest friends are an atheist and an agnostic, and it’s with them that I’ve had the most interesting and fruitful theological discussions. It’s not a matter of belief or non-belief; it’s a matter of two (or more) minds meeting to honestly and respectfully discuss an important topic and, hopefully, finish the discussion a little wiser and more inclined to live an upright life. 🙂

As an Atheist, to your points:
“Does anyone notice that the only religion atheists go after is Christianity?”
Christianity is the only religion you seem to bother looking at. Atheists go after every form of sudo-science, spiritualness, voodoo out there. Anything that can be replaced by the word, “magic” as the reason for their explanation about something. Most here in America go after christianity since it’s the religion that most people know about, so we can bypass educating people about these myths, and its the one that currently can’t seem to keep itself out of our government and science classes as well. Can’t convert people, so legislate the laws to force people to follow the religious tenants.
“I find that since God gave them an above average intellect, this fills them with pride and they become resentful of God because they feel above others who rely on Him for help.”
Poisoning the well fallacy here. Demonstrate your deity exists and did this first. Like it that you believe all atheists have above average intelligence. This implies that everyone below average intelligence is religious since none of them are atheist. There is a documented correlation there as well as the communities that are not economically poor. The uneducated and desperate seem to want a solution to their problems even if it is a magical one; church has a well documented history of drooling over these communities.
Pride - acknowledging where it is appropriate to honestly state we can not justify further explanations about an issue is to be intellectually honest and you should have pride to have that identifier associated with your group. This may irritate your deity, but it needs to get over itself then.
Resentful - can’t be resentful to an entity who’s opinion about us is irrelevant to us. Also can be resentful to an entity that comes across as not existing in the first place.
Your deity’s help - well I guess it couldn’t be bothered to help stop mass shootings since it’s too busy getting catholics to help spread aids in africa and other illiterate impoverished communities. Condoms are bad but not as bad as aids apparently. Who needs help from someone like that?
Biblical texts - Atheists are not the only ones that know the absurdities in your book, we’re just the one’s that have probably read more of it than the practitioners of the texts. That’s some time I’m never getting back.
“If I’m wrong” - pascal’s wager here. Guess actually being honest and living your life by how reality actually presents itself is not apart of your courage. Being judged for living life honestly to how it presented itself to you is not something to apologize for. Funny how you don’t use pascal’s wager to avoid the other problems of not believing all the other religious out there and worrying about the Hindu hell or any other religion you don’t agree with.

“Stoning Gays” - Is that the only issue you have that the irreligious point out that bothers you? What about the genocide texts? The eating shell fish, wearing mixed fabrics, working on the sabbath, owning people as property, virgins as spoils of war, women as property (that’s insulting half the population on the planet there), buggering around with Jobe to prove a point, mass murder of children, drowning all the world’s population. Is it that you only care about the gay community in this laundry list of moral bankruptcy? That it has an actual affect on your daily life so you focused on that point, but all those others don’t so you can ignore those moral absurdities.
Could have written all this much less confrontational but your statements deserve this level of ridicule for you statement.
