Common Ground between Protestants and Catholics?

From watching CNN’s piece on how religious christianity is trying to influence the American vote in the upcoming presidential election, I thought the common ground we have is our recognition of the evil as it is being expressed in the prevalent immorality that is observable everywhere around us.

Forget how Amanapour (sp.?) sometimes tried to use imflamatory rhetoric in her questions when interviewing the preachers who are standing up to what is destroying America internally. I hope many will see through her intentions when she phrased these questions in such terms.

Violet I think the point was not to show whats different but rather what we do agree on.

Until we do that the “world” will continue to beat us all and we look dumb.

the christines of the world love to make God look bad and we are helping her. By focusing on that we had a “division” and not looking to the future.

and forgiveness on both sides and each side recognizing the other has something to bring to the party, which we are supposed to be having on that last day, are we not supposed to be one??

What ever happened to forgiveness and letting it be water under the bridge?

well the common ground is obviously acknowledging Christ being our Lord, but Protestants will never come to the agreement of the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church which was passed down from the apostles although it is their right, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t send the Vatican a Thank you letter for putting the bible together, oh right lets not forget the doctrine of the Trinity too which is something the Catholic Church has been defending for years which became the basics of christianity.

and well actually, I do recognize the beliefs of protestant churches, I was a protestant in the majority of my christian life, so I’m well informed of what’s out there in protestant churches. infact i met alot protestants who were good examples (before I returned to the true faith :Catholocism: anyway, then they wanted to debate with me more they wanted to hang out)

I don’t believe that you know nearly as much as you think you do. Why don’t you enlighten me (a Protestant) about “what is out there” in Protestant churches. I am really curious to hear this.

If everyone keeps finding God in a protestant church then how can we be that bad

and if we are not true then God is not there because He IS truth it doest exist apart from Him. There is no truth without Him, Hes not there, then Truth doesnt exist.

How does this statement work?, it simply doesnt.

I found Truth in a protestant church then went to a catholic church to find the real Truth.

Baptist Churches (nice people but their kinda i’m here to prove you wrong kinda people)
Mormon Churches ( although they are not recognized as christian but very nice people)
Methodist Churches (nice folks)
Seventhday Adventist Churches (nice folks but their in need of prayer as far as doctrine goes)
Penecostal Churches (nice people I suppose but very judgmental group of people as well, i felt no presence of GOD)
Lutheran Churches ( their churches are very similiar to Catholic Churches in style)
Anglican Churches (which needs tons and tons of prayer)
Four-Square Churches ( there seems to be a presidental problem the last time I checked)
Calvinism ( their Once Saved Always Saved Doctrine is something I could never accept)
Non-Deominational Churches ( oh goodness I have been to soo many of these non denominational churches)

so…yeah, I thank God he guided me back to the Catholic Church

Yes but I desire Protestants to be Catholic. Why? Because Catholics are the ORIGINAL Christians.

After watching the propanganda piece on cnn tonight I know another common ground.

Being made stupid by the “world” if its fundies looking rabid, or catholics running after children, ALL believers emptying their brains and blindly following Jesus down the crazy path.

Realise the world does not care, not even one bit, exactly which church one attends, it just cares they do and are a crazed person following a non existant God.

That we and that so called God are cramping their style and the sooner they can get rid of Him and us the better.

This is the biggest common ground we have, we ALL are hated by the world because we love our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. His Name makes them crazy.

But it doesnt make us crazy, and we love and are loved by Him.

AMEN!!! There is a song by Point of Grace that sings about this. It is “I will be faithful to the choice I have made----I am determined, I will not be ashamed to live so the whole world can see, I believe!!”

yeah I went through the whole anti-label stage myself . I even had a T-shirt that said “relgion” on the right with a red X on top of it.

I’m glad I learned that labels became a huuge problem after the reformation though.

I supose I learned that the more you try to label against these labels the closer you are to them. but anyways your journey is your journey, I will continue to pray for the unity of Christianity under the the Catholic Church, the way it was meant to be.

Im glad Im classified, and stuck on your shelf. Makes it easier to deal with things making them all neat and tidy, labels turned out in order.

But, do you ever read whats inside, or open up the cans and look? See what makes up the contents??

If you follow your labels of the different churches, the sterotypical labels youve applied do nothing for the unity of Christiandom.

Perhaps we could try the same list but lets use race instead, then say they all should be white as its meant to be.

That ought to get the unity ball rolling.

Very good y’all! What I want to know is what if Catholic wasn’t good enough for Luther, than why isn’t Lutheran good enough for Baptist, which isn’t good enough for Pentecostals, which isn’t good enough for Church of Christ, which isn’t good enough for Unitarian??? I guess we all just believe in Jesus, which is good enough! NOT!
