Communion for non-Catholics in the Catholic church

**I mean, if you start out as a vegan (people have), decide that hey, you really prefer eating meat, what on earth is the matter with saying, “I was a vegan once but I decided I don’t believe as they do. I like meat and I’ll eat it. I’m no longer a vegan.”

Can you imagine though standing there and saying, “I was a vegan starting in 1980. I think it is perfectly fine to eat meat. And how dare you tell me I’m not following vegan beliefs! Didn’t I just finish telling you I’ve been a vegan all these years? Don’t you think I know what a vegan is? I AM a vegan and I will always BE a vegan and I insist that you call me a vegan and now I’m going off to eat a 16 ounce rare steak because as a vegan that is what I am entitled and called to do.”

It just doesn’t make sense to me. . .:confused:

People have to learn that sometimes, the OBVIOUS is, the factual position. The lady is clearly NOT Catholic! Go back and re-read her posts. She doesn’t harbour ‘protestant’ beliefs and misconceptions of the CC. SHE HOLDS TO THEM.

The rest of her posts and claims are neither authentic of the Catholic position, nor credible for the Protestant position.

It’s actually refreshing to have people wanting to claim to be Catholic!

She seems happy about it, so…

And that means what, exactly?

Does that mean that if I say I’m Buddhist, even if I don’t believe in the teachings, I’m Buddhist because** I say I am**?

“Be anything you want to be” means just what? That I can call myself “Democrat” even if I consistently vote Republican, simply because, say, all my ‘friends’ are Democrat and I like my friends? That I like the ‘donkey’ symbol better than the elephant one? That because “d’ comes before 'r” in the alphabet it means it’s ‘better?’

Just exactly what does 'you can be anything you want to" mean, Tweetymom?

Thank you and I am not wanting to be one I am and just do not agree with all the CC teaches. I am a happy saved Christian who goes to Catholic Church.

With respect (truly), **why? **

I don’t understand. To me. . .and it appears to the vast majority of other posters, the idea of a person who hasshown not just indifference but an actual detestation and repudiation of Catholic belief trotting off to Catholic Church and proclaiming herself a 'good happy Catholic" is as unthinkable as for those of us professing fervent Catholic beliefs going off to the local Baptist Church, getting baptized, and proclaiming ourselves happy little Baptist Christians while insisting that infant Baptism is absolutely part of the Baptist church because we SAY it is, and that of course all Baptists are loyal subjects of the Pope.

Just about any Baptist poster hearing the above would react with horror and outrage against our claims to be Baptist while utterly denying Baptist belief. . .so may I ask, with respect, just what makes the claim of a woman who repudiates Catholic belief consistently and thoroughly to be any ‘different’ --and to be treated any differently–from the Catholic ‘masquerading’ as a Baptist???

Maybe because it is absolutely wrong???

Logically, it is impossible to profess two totally contradicting points of view and insist that they’re both true.

I can’t choose to be a vegan who chows down on barbeque pork sandwiches. I don’t really know that **that’s **so hard to understand?
 
You don’t repudiate ‘all’ just some?

Oh well, then I suppose that as a vegan, it’s fine for me to eat pork so long as I don’t eat eggs and honey, right?? I’m not repudiating all the requirements of being a vegan. Just some of them.

Her point is that it’s not physically possible. Someone who eats meat is either a carnivore (eats only meat, nothing else) or an omnivore (eats both meat and vegetables).

Being a “vegan” is not like being a “Teresa” - you can’t just name yourself “vegan” - it’s a descriptive term that tells what you eat. Same as “Catholic” is a descriptive term that tells what you believe; not just a name that you can just name yourself any time you feel like it.

Well, I thank you for having made your position clear.

With respect, it is a totally illogical and erroneous position. But you have made it clear that this is where you’re ‘coming from.’ No wonder you can’t relate to what we’re saying. . .there is absolutely no common ground whatsoever.

Words either mean something or they don’t. A woman is a member of the feminine gender with XY chromosomes (at least). . .not a man. But by your ‘thinking’, hey, if a woman wants to call herself a man–or a dolphin–or a piece of cheese, hey, it’s her choice. . . Doesn’t matter if you deny everything about what you say you are, it’s your choice. . .

And so how can we possibly communicate with people for whom the words we use in communication don’t have the same meaning? It’s like walking up to a man and asking him for the time of day and having him hand you a book, because to him, ‘time’ means ‘I want to read’. And then when you keep asking him for the time of day, he gets insulted because you don’t 'understand him!"

I think we’re getting to the heart of the matter. …I think for Tweetymom, the term “Catholic” is **exactly like **the name “Teresa” --or, for that matter, like the color beige, or a field of wildflowers. . . it is 'whatever I want it to be."

And I can say the same for you. You only hear what the CC teaches, you do not hear anything but what you choose to. I do not understand how anyone can agree with things that are not in the Bible.🤷

And the Bible came to us how? Dropped by the angels as the KJV in leatherette bindings? 😃 I still don’t see in the Bible (which I read daily and love dearly) anything whatsoever which says, “Lo, all Christian teachings are to be found, and only to be found, in ye Bible”. . .

And how do you claim I 'only hear what the CC teaches?" I’ve been responding to you for weeks, I can’t help but hear a whole lotta stuff other than what the CC teaches. . .

If you want to be a Bible-only Christian, there are places you can go to church where everyone agrees with that idea.

But to call yourself a Catholic while practicing Bible-only Christianity is very strange. Why not just call yourself what you are, and get slotted into the place where you fit, instead of trying to pretend that you are a Catholic, and not fitting in in the Catholic Church?

But I think we do have to remember the Church does says we all are Catholic if baptized according to the rites of the CC.

I also have to say I know I personally find it more welcoming when Catholics are more tolerant as Paul taught us to be in Ephesians 4:2. But that’s me.

Yes, and I mean this with the greatest respect. . .Tweetymom, you obviously disagree with a **lot of the teachings of the Catholic Church. Quite frankly, I have not yet seen you express any support of ANY Catholic teachings whatsoever. **Not that I want to push you out, but I guarantee that there are dozens of Protestant churches out there whose teachings you are in **total agreement with. . . **so **why aren’t you looking for the Church which teaches truth, since you have continually told us that you don’t think the Catholic Church IS teaching truth???

Why would you stay in a Church that doesn’t 'teach truth"???
