****** We see our politicians becoming more arrogant in their public support of and advocating for abortion…Nancy Pelosi recently received an award from Planned Parenthood because she convinced Stupak to sign the health care bill; Joe Biden went to kenya to promote allowing abortion in their new constitution promising them that if they would do this then the ‘money would flow’…and yet, Pelosi and Biden are considered Catholics in good standing because they are permitted to continue to receive the Eucharist. Arch. Burke has stated over and over and over again that Canon Law prohibits those who publicly advocate for abortion from receiving the Eucharist yet some of our Bishops claim it is a matter of personal opinion. No wonder so many Catholics are confused and disheartened. No wonder so many millions of human babies continue to be slaughtered in the wombs of their mothers. Hopefully Rome will speak publicly and clearly about this abomination soon…Pope Benedict has already stated publicly that those who publicly supported abortion could not receive the Eucharist but the Bishops, for the most part, have ignored this. “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

Perhaps those bishops understand the difference between a person’s faith beliefs and secular law in a democracy of plural beliefs.

CMatt, while this may be true, Pelosi and Biden are also personally pro abortion. It is not just because they are representing their places where they represent, but rather their personal beliefs. Also, if they were against abortion they should run for office as such, so that they may not deceive voters and hurt themselves spiritually.

Joe Biden would personally have an abortion! :bigyikes: Wow now there would be something breaking natural law. 😃

i’m sure the Bishops understand the difference, but they are still required to follow canon law which prohibits those who publicly advocate for abortion from receiving the Eucharist.

The acceptance of public scandal by people like Pelosi & Biden, who are in public office & proclaim that they are “Catholics” while blatantly disregarding Church teaching on the grave evil of all abortions, creates confusion & doubt in the general public, giving the impression that Cafeteria Catholics are perfectly fine!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches us;

"Scandal can be provoked by laws or institutions, by fashion or opinion.

Therefore, they are guilty of scandal who establish laws or social structures leading to the decline of morals and the corruption of religious practice, or to “social conditions that, intentionally or not, make Christian conduct and obedience to the Commandments difficult and practically impossible.” This is also true of business leaders who make rules encouraging fraud, teachers who provoke their children to anger, or manipulators of public opinion who turn it away from moral values. (CCC 2286)

When will they learn? It was the same blatant disregard for Church guidance of some Bishops concerning clergy sexual abuse that has damaged the Church so deeply. Rather than confront, report & remove abusers, they tried to ignore, relocate or forgive without ensuring recurrences could not occur.

Sancta maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Pecatoribus!
