Did you happen to read my long, but detailed post above about the history of the belief in the Real Presence? What do you think about the huge amount of historical evidence for the Real Presence, dating all the way back to the Apostles?

I’ll be happy to answer any further questions you may have! 👍

And I STILL recommend “The Lamb’s Supper” by Scott Hahn. This short book, which is probably in your local library, will help you understand this doctrine in MUCH greater detail.
I read your posts. You took a lot of time and care to present the historical facts. Our faith is definately a journey. Although I have been Catholic all my life, I learn new things every day.🙂
Isn’t that wonderful?

Jennifer, I have the CD. I will mail it to you if want it.

…“plaese don’t be offended? Offeded!?” How can I not be offended by that!? :banghead:

lol, only joking with you dashso40, I am not offended… I don’t believe that christ is present in the Eucharist. I believe that christ is present in my life, in my prayers and in my death.
Then why are you converting? This is a sacrament that one must believe in to be truly Catholic.

By this Christ meant the following; whoever accepts my death as the price for their sins now and forever until there last moments, then surly they will have life and not death. They will live by accepting my death as their sacrifice. Once they accept that my life was put on the altar to pay for their sins and they remember this always then they will surly have my gift of life.

His words were metaphorical. The Eucharist is taken too literally, the wafer and wine do not become his body and blood.
You are in RCIA. You should know better than that. I’m not Catholic and I know better. Maybe, you should tell your priest or the guy leading RCIA how you feel. If your priest new you believed this way you would not be confirmed.

Dear Jennifer

I will email you those sripture quotes as promised because you want to understand this teaching. All here should try to understand Jennifer is here to learn because she wants to be catholic so give her a break and just try to help her please.

This based on an old post of mine. I hope it’s doctrinally correct because it’s how I see it-

We must see God as infinite and eternal Living Love to understand this. God is Love.

What I’m saying is that God is present entirely in every infinitesimal space within Himself. This is because He is infinite Love and every infinitesimal part of Him is infinite love. He is infinite and eternal Living Love. So no matter which part of God your in He is completely present there because infinite love is present there. This explains how God can be completely present in the finite eucharist. Is it not easy to understand? I know I’m talking about something completely foreign to us but it answers some serious questions I thought, and I thought a person of modest intelligence like mine could understand the concept pretty well.

Also, Jesus is God and you can’t separate the members of the Blessed Trinity so Jesus is completely present everywhere too. a mystery to us but true I think.
God is present everywhere but He is not the things in our world. He exists in them as He does everywhere but He is not them. I think that when the priest says the words of consecration the Holy Spirit transforms the bread and wine into the God who was already present in His entirety within the space occupied by the bread and wine. Because God is entirely present everywhere as said the entirety of God is present in any part of the consecrated bread and wine. The appearance of bread and wine is accidental once it’s consecrated. This means that while it looks, feels and tastes like bread and wine it is miraculously God. It remains God until it breaks down which is a few mins once consumed. It fills us with grace which is the living love of God and God Himself and is a pledge of eternal life when properly received. When we adore the consecrated bread and wine we adore God. This is why we bow before the tabernacle when the light is on indicating the hosts are in there.

Does this make sense dearest friend? I worked out much of this today and can’t see why it would not be an acceptable explaination. Someone who is an expert theologian can correct this if needs be.

God bless you and keep you always dear friend:thumbsup:🙂
Hope your pets are enjoying th warm weather there too;)

John I am surprised but you have explained this very well! God is present everywhere we go becasue even in the depths of darkness if we are faithfull he will be in us. PRASE THE LORD! The eucharist does make more sense now. Thank you for taking so much time to help me put on this , you are a very patient and caring christian.

Jennifer, you’ve got a little time to learn if you’re coming into the Church at Easter Vigil 2010. In your RCIA class, they probably haven’t gotten to this topic yet. Until they do, I recommend praying for the grace to believe, and spending some time each week before the Tabernacle in prayer.
I can’t bow down to the Tabernacle… it just feels wrong! 😦

I told my priest that I was protestant, I also told the deacon but they just didn’t seem bothered… They simply told me to fill in a member ship form and go to RCIA. That my friends, is why I was so confused about the whole thing! :whacky: I had to ask all my questions here because no one would speak to me at the church. All I have had on CAF is people having angry explosions at me because I’m asking about catholicism…

Now Jennifer, you are exagerrating. There have been plenty of kind responses. Sometimes the way you word your questions make you seem confrontational. Take your OP.
His words were metaphorical. The Eucharist is taken too literally, the wafer and wine do not become his body and blood.

It looks like you are lecturing Catholics, the Pope, and 2,000 plus years of Catholic practice. :o

Perhaps it would have been better to phrase your OP as "I’m finding it very difficult to understand the Real Presence, can someone help ? 🙂

But most of us have gotten over that.

BTW, I have several CD’s I will be sending tomorrow. I have your address. Thanks.

God bless :highprayer:

Sorry if I sounded mean…When I was converting, I too found it hard to believe that Jesus is in the Eucharist, but through prayer and reading about Catholicism,it’s not hard for me to fathom anymore…Good luck:D

I understand. When we genuflect we are worshiping Christ who is truly, really and substantially present in the Eucharist, which is inside the tabernacle.

If you are not ready to genuflect then don’t, but I hope you will spend some time in prayer in a Catholic Church (praying to Jesus, not to the tabernacle). It is hard to appreciate the power of praying before the Blessed Sacrament until you get in there and try it.

If you can find an hour or so, I hope and pray you will listen to Parish Mission talk #3 by Fr. David Wilton of the Fathers of Mercy (on this site). It is all about the Eucharist, and is an especially good talk for those who don’t understand the Eucharist.

Dear Jennifer

I’m glad it has partially helped you. I will send the scriptural basis explaination too- on email. Don’t be offended if some catholics are a bit aggressive in their approach. You are doing Gods will perfectly when you search for truth. I assume you understand that whilst God is present everywhere His presence in the eucharist becomes real in the consecrated bread and wine? We just can’t see it. This is why we need faith.

May I make a suggestion I think you might like dear friend? Given that God is everywhere why don’t you say to God " I don’t know if the eucharist is real and I don’t want to be an idolator in case it isn’t, but because I know you are present everywhere in any case I will adore and worship your presence where the eucharist is. I will adore and worship your presence in the consecrated bread and wine and in the taberacle when the light for it is on. I ask you , my God, to teach me and help me understand this teaching of the eucharist better, and to give me a sign if you are truly present in the eucharist."

There’s no idolatry in this dear friend. It may be a good solution for you whilst you learn about catholicism too. What do you think of this idea?

You have made good friends here:)

May God bless you, instruct you, guide and assist you, and reveal His presence to you:thumbsup:🙂

I think that this is a fantastic idea John! 😃
I’ll go up the front of the chapel early before mass on sunday and I’ll face the tabernacle and say this prayer. Why didn’t I think of this before!
You are amazing John Russell!

May God bless you and Mary watch over you:thumbsup:🙂

I can see that you are trying to help, thank you. 😛
I am not objecting against this Eucharist catholic belief but I just can’t understand or accept it.
I will never leave the catholic church just because I can’t believe in the Eucharist. But christ said, “do this in memory of me.” He didn’t say anything else that would cause people to believe that he is any closer to us then than he would be in our prayer or devotion.
Zundrah, when you look at the Greek translation, “do this in memory of me” implies that it’s not just remembering, but re-representing. 🙂 hope that makes sense.
