Let’s see…
  1. He stops by my work (I work in a supermarket bakery) and calls out, “There’s my beautiful wife!” so that all my co-workers and nearby customers can hear. (I always blush 😊 !)
  2. He gets this slap-happy look on his face whenever I go grocery shopping and bring home something he really likes (lime popsicles or sardines, for instance 🤷 ) and he says, “You’re amazing! You’re always thinking about me!”
  3. I leave for work at 1:30 a.m., he leaves at 5:30 and he gets a load of laundry done and another one started before he leaves… and then he THANKS ***ME ***for finishing up the second load! (Sad to say, I’m very bad at thanking HIM for even doing laundry!)
  4. In the middle of a conversation, whether over dinner or dishes, he’ll grin at me and say, “I’m thanking the Lord for bringing us together!” Or he’ll tell me that on his way to work, he prayed his rosary specifically for me. Or at night when I’m asleep before he is (remember our schedule?), he’ll trace a cross on my forehead and whisper, “Jesus bless you. I love you, Babe.”
Geez, I feel like I’m bragging, but he deserves so much praise for the wonderful man he is and I thank God each and every day for him and our life together.

We’ve been married nineteen years!

“Honey, you have no idea how many people I have told how ‘low maintenance’ you are. All of the husbands at work keep complaining how much money their wives spend and I told them I can’t get you to spend any.”

No wonder why my wardrobe is in shambles. 😉

Father forgive me for I have sinned. The day I came home and my wife had a new Lexus in the driveway for a test drive I told her… “It makes your butt look big.”
Ha-ha! That’s a standing joke in our house . . . “Does this cell phone make my butt look big?”, “Does this Starbucks make my butt look big?” etc . . . (luckily, he never says yes) —KCT

Oh my - that’s not braging, that’s beautiful!! I have tears in my eyes, that is just so lovely!

And you helped me to remember that my own DH blesses me with holy water as well (we have a little font at the foot of our bedroom stairs), and you would have thought that I bought him the moon the other night when I brought home KFC and “brown pop” - he had been craving it for weeks, so I stopped on my way home and surprised him. He thanked me all night! 😃

He tells me I’m a good mommy. (This was a big worry for me, seeing that I never so much as baby sat in my 33 years of life). I stay at home (Most days) and I feel like I’m not getting ANYTHING done, yet I am wiped out at the end of the day. The laundry never seems to get done. And I feel gulity. But then my hubby begins to list all the the things I do and tells me I have every right to be tired.

He always tells me I’m pretty or I look good in an outfit. we are very fashion forward people and he will give me his honest opinion. (I may or may not LISTEN…) I LIKE that. Don’t let me go out the house looking a mess. 😃

My DH isn’t a talker, he’s a quiet Engineer type  , but he thanks me for doing things around the house, and makes me feel beautiful.

The best “compliments” I receive though, aren’t verbal. I don’t have to hear that I’m doing a good job, or that I’m pretty… I like to be touched. So when he walks past me and playfully jabs me in the sides, or takes my hand, or rests his hand on my knee – those kinds of things – he compliments me beyond what words will ever do.

I know the book, The Five Love Languages, has been mentioned, and for those familiar with it, my DH’s primary language is Words of Affirmation. So I make a constant effort to tell him that I appreciate the things he does (make dinner every night, the dishes, the laundry, change the baby, provide for the family, etc.) and the qualities he has (you’re so smart/good looking, I love your shoulders, I love having a tall husband, etc.).

This thread is really making me appreciate my DH more. Thank you, OP! 👍

I love when my DH says specific stuff – like “every time I look at them, I thank God you quit to stay home; you’re so good at this!”

or “no, I think you’re an excellent cook, and you really like doing it, so you should find classes and take them!” – and I know he’s sincere, not just trying to tell me my cooking is bad in a nice way…LOL!

I try to keep the kids mindful of all that we have is because Daddy works hard for the money to buy these things (dinner out, a new bike, whatever the instance might be) – I think he likes to hear them appreciate his hard work, kwim? Not in a guilt-ridden way, but in an “appreciate all that he does for us” kind of way. I try oh-so-hard not to “stick him” with household/kid duties when he walks thru the door no matter how fed-up/tired/stressed/deaf I might be at that point…I want him to see home as a shelter from the rest of the world, not more work to come home to and switch hats…He has told me he really appreciates that as well. I have a hard time with compliments…I’m working on it. I do better with actions, but I know he needs to hear words sometimes too…it’s an ongoing lesson I’m learning… 🙂

My husband compliments me… he expresses admiration for when I do things. He definitely says, “I don’t know how you do it!” in regards to staying home with the children. I don’t know if that’s really a compliment but it feels like one.

He’ll say something like, “You’re AMAZING!” when I tackle and deal with a big problem. He loves how I can just launch into an issue and deal with it - like sorting out a billing problem or dealing with the solicitors to buy a house.

1)Have you talked to her about it?..

…2) Hand her a copy of “The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands” by Dr. Laura Schlessinger and ask her to read it. You can’t force her to, but you can highly suggest it.

I wouldn’t know what to do if my spouse helped me out of the car EVERY TIME and thanked ME for the pleasure of the job…
  1. Yes, no matter how I word it or what tone I use it starts a fight.
  2. Good idea 🙂

My hubby says I’m “easy”… 😃

:rotfl: Unfortunately for him it’s true!

Married life is good. 😛

you gotta sit down and talt to your wife… tell her that you are hurting and that you love her but that you are unhappy. if you do not love her tell her that you are afraid of falling out of love with her because you are unhappy and dont feel aprreciated. Maybe she has some sorrow that she is not sharing with you for some reason and that makes her seem cold…

Communication is the way forward. Jesus help you.
your sister ( who hopes one day to receive the sacrament of marriage and longs for that).
Grace.

As many here know, we’ve been unsuccessfully trying to sell our house for over two years.

About a week ago my dw decided to bring up a new puppy and I told her I thought it was a really bad idea until we get the house sold. Well yesterday she asked again, telling me about the puppies left (from a litter our friend just purchased one from).

I told her that I trust in God that He is going to help us get the house sold…not here’s the compliment. “And, I believe in her and trust her to do the best thing for our family.” 🙂

Well, I’m here to tell you, I went home to a new puppy yesterday. :bigyikes:

Just another example that dw can NOT be trusted! 😃

LOL!!! As the proud owner of a new 9wk old pup, (he’s not home yet; Monday he joins us) I can empathize…my DH is a little leery of it all…

My fiancee and I compliment each other all the time. She tells me that she doesn’t deserve me and that she finds me strong and caring, etc. etc. I love her so much.

Right now it would be a no-go 😦 Andthing that can be construed as negitive starts a fight. “If you’re not happy then leave!” is the type of reply. But as of a few days ago she told me she thought she might need to see a shrink. There is a start. :gopray2:

My husband told me this morning that I am priceless to him and that he can never take a step forward in life without my help and support 🙂 When he is always the one sacrificing for our family too 🙂

Dirk- please don’t give up on your wife! I cannot believe how much you must love her to be able to show it so in your actions, even when her actions are the opposite? Have you ever asked her why she acts that way? Just said, “Honey, what’s wrong? What can I do to help you feel better?” Even if she doesn’t answer, maybe it will give her something to think about.

I lurves this thread. 🙂

The other day, my husband was looking over the Rosaries I’d custom-created, and he picked one up, looked at in his hands and said, “wow, you’re really goodat this!”. That totally made my day.

❤️
