Concerned about coming persecutions

Hello.

I’m not a brave or strong person and I’m concerned that I won’t stand up for my faith when I need to. I also suffer from depression and all sorts of other human weaknesses. But ever since the Supreme Court’s decision upholding what they call “gay marriage” my foreboding and fears about upcoming persecutions have intensified - I mean I’m on alert since I first heard about the court’s decision.

Also, how do I respond with love at this particular time?

Any constructive support, provided it’s within Catholic doctrine, is appreciated.

Why would you be persecuted? Are you a county clerk that think they have the right to not serve the public?

Keep your eyes fixed on heaven. We are not in this life to seek and find comfort. We are here to grow in faith and attain eternal Life with Christ. Have courage, dear one. God’s grace will always be there when you need it. Trust in Him.

I’m afraid and weak too. Our Father knows this. Be still and know that He is God. In my opinion, people are becoming more closed to the truth. Be wary whom you trust.
 
To the OP and anyone else who is afraid, weak, sinfully angry or filled with hate due to this disastrous ruling… Seek counsel from your priests. I’m sure talking to them will not only help you, but will also help them too.

Well, God warned us these times would come, he warned us we would be persecuted, imprisoned, tortured because of him…the important thing is to NEVER deny your faith, no matter what they try to scare you with, Im sure it will be terrible, I hope I have the strength, I think I do, but Im not facing anything currently, so its hard to guess.

Not if you’re serving evil.

Consider: The same arguments about so-called gay “marriage” and being pro-choice today were the same ones made about slavery in the 1800s. “But it’s the law, the court said it was okay” and I do think there were even excuses like that Africans somehow weren’t fully human.

See how that works?

Because if you don’t tow the line on so-called gay “marriage” you may lose friends, or possibly your job.

In Canada, if you speak out against it, you could be hauled before a human rights court and be forced to pay for all the expenses yourself.

Well actually my Facebook feed looks like a war broke our between the Confederates and a Skittles factory. About an even split. Not worried about my job…since I do work for Uncle Sam and all the rights with regard to diversity have been in place in the workforce for many years.
 
As central governments become too powerful, religious freedoms become suppressed. Next, they outlaw religion as an enemy of the imperial State. And the Church has dealt with this many times over the centuries.

2 quick points: first, God grants the grace we need to handle persecution (if we are not in a state of mortal sin), but He does not give it to us until we are being persecuted. So what should we do? Ask in advance for the grace we will need, and live good Christian lives so that you will he in good shape if or when it happens!

Second point: in aScrewtape, CS Lewis talks about how the demons’ goal is to separate us from God and they will do anything to accomplish that, including keeping us in fear of something that might happen in the future. So when these thoughts come to you, pray for help to Our Lady and St Michael the Archangel and turn your attention to God.

Act appropriately (generally: politely, but one might have to be firm, for example, if a sibling goes on and in, one might need to be assertive in changing the subject or walking away) *and pray for those you run into. *

I’ve heard about that facebook meme or whatever it was already.

I think you’ll also find along many avenues that “diversity” to many folks just means people who look different conforming to the same opinion…

Thank you for you encouragement. I am afraid too that I might lose my job or worse not stand up for my faith. After everything Jesus did to me denying him would be a nightmare to me. But you are correct.

For the OP: Fear is not of God. If you feel afraid then that is Satan trying to tempt you. I would also highly recommend receiving the Blessed Sacrament daily, through it you will have the graces you need to fight temptation. Of course I don’t need to say how important confession is. And pray, pray and pray more. In his books Father Jacque Philipe ( especially a Time for God) says that the key to a deeper relationship with God and supply you with the graces you need to be Holy (which you will be immune to temptation) is silent prayer. Just set a time for God daily not to talk to him but just to listen to him, be open to him and allow him to love you. Cuz really all God wants from us is to allow him to bestow his love upon us. Through his love you will recive graces you never even dreamt of before.
And like st Francis said in his post, God will give you the graces you need to stand up for your belief. Just have faith in him.

And remember, “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” mt 5:10
My dear you are blessed, always remember that. I’m trying to remind myself of that too.

One advantage we have is the right to challange the court’s decisions. And if they get to one sided, then there are lots of groups who will do that.

The other advantage is what is good for the goose is good for the gander. By passing laws we don’t want, they in a sense can be used to protect us as well.

However I do believe that we will have to show our own mustard of strength as time marches on. Christians will more and more be required to live christian lives inspite of bad laws. It will in a sense require more from us to live christian lives because our society will no longer favor christianity and God as it did in the past. But then it will show Jesus just how much we love him when we stick to what he wants of us contrary to what the popular wrong ideas are surfacing.

I don’t think there is any need to be afraid in our everyday life as we will learn, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, how to manage it.

50 years ago, I would not have believed what is going on today to be possible. But yet I still have a handle on my life and those around me. No matter what we face, the Holy Spirit is here and will continue to give us ways to continue our oneness with Christ.

Our priest fully expects persecution to come in the form of jailing for the priest and anyone who speaks out against the prevailing thought.
It’s happened many times before ,
The people in power don’t like what the priest has to say so they make it a crime.
It’s happened in England,Ireland,Scotland,Poland ,China, Russia ,Germany,Mexico, and France ,and even in Canada plus many other placed .
Millions of Catholics have died under persecution in your short lifetime.
Sometimes accompanied by torture
It was illegal for a priest to wear his collar in public until the 1980’s in Mexico
What prevents it from happening here ,the answer is nothing
We have so subverted the founding fathers understanding of the First Amendment that it is totally meaningless
If that amendment can be be redefined it renders the entire Constitution a meaningless pile of Drivel.

Proclamation of the the truth is a dangerous thing.
