Concerns about my love for God

Lately, as I’ve been trying to learn more about the faith, I’ve been unsure about the relation between some of my actions/mindsets and my love for God.

For example, sometimes I feel like there’s something about the faith I should look a little more into, but would rather wait a bit. Either I have a lot of other work to do, or I’d just be more comfortable looking into it later despite having free time. I’d still like to think I have genuine intentions of growing in my faith, but I’m not sure if waiting would hinder my love for a God.

Tonight, for example, I had a lot of work to get through and planned on looking a bit more into some things about the faith after I finished. Now, I’m feeling pretty tired and would rather look into these things tomorrow when I have more time…is this alright with God? I’d say the answer is yes, as he knows whether I want to actually improve, and would be more comfortable later…though I’d like to hear feedback to reassure my confidence. I don’t know for sure if I should be trying to condition myself to be more comfortable now, or if it’s fine.

Everyone should have a certain amount of time each day to pray. That is a given and important, such as the rosary.

Outside of this comes what is needed for your spiritual health. If you feel that what you know is not enough for you presently, then you should do the reading. If it is something you would like to know better but isn’t right now affecting you in an adverse way, then “when” is up to you.

However it is always a good idea to have a time of the day set aside to read for five or ten minutes to do spiritual reading, such as the Bible.

And whatever is done is best done because of the love of God which makes it so much easier and rewarding.

I would recommend scheduling time to study the aspects of the faith you want to learn more about. There will always be temptations to procrastinate and wait until tomorrow. The problem is that often “tomorrow” never comes.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say you might be more “comfortable” looking into these things later. Are you concerned about what you may learn?

Faith is simple, yet complex. We don’t really understand it, yet we (most of us) believe in a higher power-i.e. God. I am not sure you can just look into faith, but am sure you can build upon it through prayer and love for others as well as God.

I was thinking in a similar vein the other night, but was thinking more in the lines of I don’t know where or how my faith originates, but God has a strangle hold on me and won’t let go. Of course, I think that as I have a soul, I am a creature of God and my faith is a living entity within me and all of us and it is paramount that we nurture its growth.

Yes, study, read, contemplate, meditate, but most of all, pray. Let your faith become you and you become a living light of faith. Of course, all I can offer you are words. You must find your own way, but a spiritual director could aid you. Peace and prayers.
P. S. I know that this response may not make a whole lot of sense to the reader, but it is really hard to articulate what I feel and I have not responded well. Please forgive.

It’s more that I would be less stressed to look at it later, or would simply prefer doing something else for the time being.

You’ve got another post “Atheistic Thoughts”, which is really along similar lines - how to deepen your faith, while at the same time wondering if God’s real or not.

Reading between the lines, I get the feeling you’re pretty much a loner when it comes to your faith. I’d suggest getting together with a few other young Catholics who are active in their faith, and learning from them. Right now, with the stresses of study, time constraints, and the overall atheist bent of today’s western society tugging on your mind, I think you’re a sitting duck for the devil to alienate you from Christian fellowship.

That’s how I see it - I think you need a bit of sincere Christian company with a few people of your own age group, and maybe a bit older.

All the best.
