Conclave Tues March 12th

So a four-day conclave would begin Tuesday…but I bet no voting until Wednesday. Means we should probably get a Pope Friday or Saturday…no way he gets invested before Easter at this point. Looks like Divine Mercy Sunday is more likely.

They will have a Mass in the morning, then enter in the evening for the first round of balloting.
 
I think they have a choice, whether or not to hold a ballot on the first day? I know there is a maximum of one ballot, because they all have to swear the oath, etc. - and that takes quite some time.

If the murmerings that the Curlials wanted an earlier start while the Externals wanted an earlier one, I could see Tuesday being a compromise day, because they can get the procedural things done with, hold no ballot, and start voting wednesday morning.

Assuming they agree…there have been some very long conclaves lasting months and even years because they can’t come to a decision. I wouldn’t place bets on having a new pope by the end of the week.

I would agree, I think the Cardnails would want to have a new Pope in place prior to Holy Week.
 
Well apparently the Cardinals are a little late…we already have a new pope. And he’s from New York, has a ex-wife and is Jewish of all things…Go him! 😃

the longest conclave in the past 100 years was five days

Although that is historically true, the more recent ones haven’t lasted more 4 or so days.

Easter is March 31. There’s plenty of time to elect a pope and put him in office.
 
Not really. Since the installation is always on a Sunday. They’d either have to do it just a day or two after picking the Pope or palm Sunday if they wanted to do it before easter.
 
Would they hold the installation on Easter Sunday? I wouldn’t think so. I also think they’ll have him (the new pontiff) in place fairly shortly. They’ve kind of had a little while to think about it…

The murmurings I am hearing are that the Solemnity of St. Joseph, patron of the Universal Church, would be a great day for a papal inauguration – even though it’s a Tuesday. That makes sense to me. I don’t think they will want to postpone it until after Easter. All the cardinals would have to go home just to turn around and come back a few weeks later.
 
I’m predicting 6pm (Rome time) on Thursday, March 14th for the announcement of the new pope. 😛
