Where did you hear this? I’ve never heard of it. Why should the priest know this? Effect the confession how? Is there a difference in murdering (or some other grave sin) if your single opposed to being married or religious?
They need to know you state of life…and yes it can become “part of the confession” for if you are married…that can be part of your sins…for instance against chastity…for such are different than if one is single…for one now sins against ones marriage (ones spouse) as well here…and this needs to be part of the confession…certainly of mortal sins…

as to murder…yes…it can even effect that …for ones family or religious order can certainly be affected gravely by even this 🙂 so do not murder…ok.

and as for a vow…yes…for if one sins against a actual vow…there is the sin against what the vow was about…say chastity according to state…and a sin against the virtue of religion…so vows need to be mentioned…at least if it involves grave things…or one is a religious…

Quote: “We should not intentionally not-confess venial sins though. If one is aware of a sin, even a venial one, it should still be confessed.”

One need not confess “ANY” venial sins…so one may certainly intentionally not include “by name” any number of venial sins one is conscious of…(heck some weeks I imagine some could have quite a list! and the people behind you would need a chair while they are waiting…)

of course it is good to confess at least some of them…and very strongly encouraged…

one can then “include the others one is sorry for” in that “and all the sins of my life”

Thanks for this; sometimes I don’t know about me. :o My status will come up one way or another during confession and on occasion I remember the priest asking me what it was. Another DUH moment on my part.

Your all great here and I learn so much!

Thanks

Thanks, GT. Your thoughts are very appreciated. When you’re new to the Catholic faith it can be bit overwhelming. There is so much to learn and understand. 🙂
I know, and I agree. I don’t know that you ever fully understand everything in the Catholic faith. Schools never out. The computer age has been a blessing for research though.

I admire your interest and effort. Very wise decision. May we “all” strive to make a better effort.

Have a Great Holiday and God Bless, GT

Hi All,
Interesting posts by everyone. I am quite glad there are many who take the faith seriously.
About confession. Yes, it is true that church has made a distinction between different degrees of sins. I believe these distinctions are made based on the understanding on the human nature and its imperfections. However the effect of sin is very damaging spiritually, psychologically and sometimes even physically.

I was brought up in catholic faith. Few years ago i almost slipped completely away from it almost became a non believer. Then I was saved again, even without me realising, I beacme so devout.( Works of God). It helps me to relate to this topic. We may not commit serious sins all the time. But all the small little things that we think are not so serious accumulate and develop into a open field for a bigger play by satan. We have to keep a check on oursleves ,do not imagine that it is forgiven and take it for granted. Go there and admit to the Lord that you did wrong and you are sorry.

Also more you receive the sacrement of reconciliation and forgiveness you will be made aware of ,by the Spirit, about right and wrong.More you are aware of it, the more you will be careful of it. Then you will feel that you need to confess. The moment you think you want to confess, do not resist the feeling, because it is the Spirit.

And about the ending of the confession: I say this " I ask pardon for all the sins I told now, for the sins I forgot and do not know that I committed. And ask for the graces not to repeat them again."
Sorry If I did repeat anything that is already been told many times here!
