They need to know you state of life…and yes it can become “part of the confession” for if you are married…that can be part of your sins…for instance against chastity…for such are different than if one is single…for one now sins against ones marriage (ones spouse) as well here…and this needs to be part of the confession…certainly of mortal sins…Where did you hear this? I’ve never heard of it. Why should the priest know this? Effect the confession how? Is there a difference in murdering (or some other grave sin) if your single opposed to being married or religious?
as to murder…yes…it can even effect that …for ones family or religious order can certainly be affected gravely by even this so do not murder…ok.
and as for a vow…yes…for if one sins against a actual vow…there is the sin against what the vow was about…say chastity according to state…and a sin against the virtue of religion…so vows need to be mentioned…at least if it involves grave things…or one is a religious…
