Confession and Christ

I know when we confess to a priest it is as if we are confessing directly to Christ. My question is this. When the priest says something to you after a confession should we also take it as coming from Christ? The priest told me something of a prophetic nature and I was wondering is this from Christ or just his intuition? Thanks
 
Not “as if”. It IS. He is standing in person Christi.

Priests are permitted to make their own comments.
 
Are you sure it wasn’t just advise? And you misinterpreted it as some sort of prophecy.
 
Priests make statements all the time, doesn’t equate to prophecy. We must be very careful using that word.
 
If it was a penance, you must consider it as coming directly from Christ. If anything else, you are well advised to listen and weigh what he says. In our culture, we ponder little and pontificate much. Should be the other way around
 
Jesus gave priests the power to bind and loose sins.

He did NOT give them infallibility or even a guarantee that they wouldn’t be idiots.

That said, after years of experience they sometimes can make a “prediction.” IE. If you keep going out to bars you will attract the wrong sort of friends.

Nobody here can answer such a question.

Confessors do not have the gift of infallibility.

Jesus will speak through them, but he is nonetheless working through an unworthy mortal creature that likewise goes to Confession and possesses human weakness and free will. The closer the Confessor is to God, the more freely Jesus can act through him. St Faustina - who suffered tremendously because of Confessors who weren’t prepared for her - tells us to pray daily for our Confessors & Spiritual Advisors for them to receive light.

While not common, many priests and religious will tell you that there are times during spiritual situations where they open their mouth and certain words just pour out of them of their own accord. No, it was not infallibility, but it is not unheard of for the Holy Spirit to inspire small prophecies in every-day servants of God. It has happened to me a couple of times and you just sit back, thinking, "What the heck did I just say?!’ The times when the Holy Spirit speaks of the future are only the most blatant examples. The same thing sometimes happens when you are simply compelled, for an unknown reason, to give some piece of advice which turns out to be exactly what the other person needs to hear. This is a rather regular occurrence for priests and religious, but is no less of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit as prophecies of the future.
