Priests have told you “sins of pornography and masturbation are some of the most commonly confessed”? I thought priests are never allowed to reveal what has been told them in Confessions.

The seal of the confessional applies to individual confessions. The nature of an individual’s confession may never be revealed.

Priests have told you “sins of pornography and masturbation are some of the most commonly confessed”? I thought priests are never allowed to reveal what has been told them in Confessions.

A priest may never divulge which person confessed what, under penalty of excommunication, but he may of course speak generally about what kinds of sins he hears.

When a priest hears hundreds, if not thousands, of confessions each and every year, there’s no harm done in telling someone that this or that sin is common.
